Subject: new gen 3.9l magnum into 1987 4x4 Dak... IP: Logged
Message: Is this type of conversion possible, to take out the old 3.9l eng. from a 4x4 87 dak, and drop in a new generation 3.9 engine into to it, if so, how much, or should i just look into having the old one rebiult, it runs, and goes "ok" for an 87, but it burns lots of gas, and smokes a little, wanted to pep it up a little, and add some to it, thank ya, once again.........

Message: My friend anything is possible, but there are some precausions that you must take into consideration. First thing is that the Gen II, and gen III 3.9l engines(magnums for short) use a deferent pcm, than the premagnum (Gen I 87-91). That being said, they also use a completely diferent wiring harness, and are fuel injected, either efi or mpfi. So if you are going to do the swap, make sure you have the wiring harness, pcm, and all of the necesarry fuel lines. I'm in the process of doing this swap, and I'll keep you posted as things arise. I'm either going to do the complet engine swap out of a Gen II magnum truck, build my premagnum into a magnum (dependin on cost) or buy a new magnum engine. Time and resources are the critical factor though.
Good luck with the swap and I hope this is of some help to you.
