Message: Buy researching this post, i found out how to check the eng. codes on my 88 3.9l. here is what i came up with. 13,14,21,37, then the close code 55. i went to allpar to get list of codes. i have all the sensors, the o2 the map, from extra engine out of ext cab, but my concern is this. the egr valve has been bypassed, along with the smog pump due to bearing issues, the truck had a 4speed, now has a 3speed. is the egr useless without the smog pump, when hooked up truck dies, or should i get it from spare engine and hook up without smog pump.?? i'm assuming it is causing my problems along with the 3spd tranny switch. i kept the 4speed just haven't had rebuilt. the 3spd is a great tranny, i don't won't to go back unless it goes out. but when my check engine light comes on, my truck runs like crap and pulls itself forward without accelartion quite a bit. i have poor gas mileage too. maint reqd light stays on. i can't find in here where to reset the computer to see if that helps, but feel it won't help long. please help, i need to get it fixed this weekend. thank you.

Message: Reset the PCM by disconnecting the neg battery cable for a few minutes. After that i believe you will get a 12 code which is PCM lost power. I don't completely understand how the smog pump setup works in the gen I trucks but my guide says that they work together. It sounds as though it's going into "limp in" mode when the check engine light comes on. This is a function to get you home or to a shop. Sorry I probobly told you stuff you already know, but that's what I got at the moment.
