Subject: Need Exhaust Advice and P/N IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2002 quadcab 4x4 V6 and I want a new performance Exhaust. I've heard alot of you guys on here recommend the Dynomax Super turbo. However, I talked to the tech rep and they say they only have it in a 3" cat back system. Is this true? I was wanting to keep the 2.5" pipes for more low end torque and HP. My problem is that my stock muffler is ~27.5" long and the Dynomax I checked on was only 23". How are you guys making up the 4.5" length difference? Or is there a Part Number that is a better match as far as length goes?

Message: I have got a LOT of advise from dakota dan, but I have a 3.9 and wanted a good exhaust that was not too loud. I was suggested the DYNOMAX 17748. This muffler seemed to be popular throughout the boards. It will be here today. As far as the length goes you just have to get a piece of pipe 2 1/2 id, cut to length, and sleeve that on. I will know more in the days to come when mine goes on. I ordered mine from summitracing.com p/n WLK-17748. Hope I could help a little bit.

Message: Right now, Ravin is the new popular muffler, I'm getting mine installed on my 3.9L this weekend so i'm gonna see how good it is. The ravin muffler has a muffler specifically for the dakota and increases hp, 2 miles more on mpg, deep tone and such.

Message: I installed the 17748 Dynomax Super Turbo on my 94 Dakota with a 3.9 about 1 month ago. I like the power increase and the slight rumble. I didn't like the way it sounds like a glass pack (with the cracking) when accelerating. I installed a Pilot resonater from Autozone last week and it calmed the cracking. I can now live with it. I did remove the cat and hooked up the original tale pipe. I have 124,000 miles on my Dak and drive it everyday towing a 2000 lbs boat about once a week in summer. The worst thing is I live in WV and have steep hills. When towing up hill it gets loud enough that you can't hear anyone sitting in the back.

Message: Sorry I didn't answer your question. Mine came with 2.5 ID in and out. I bought it at Advance Auto.

Message: on the exhaust.. i just went to a local exhaust shop where i know the people and their work and had mine done first off i had a single in/dual out glass pack installed with 2.5 " pipes ($150 labor and all) and today went and had them to cut off the glasspack and install a flowmaster 40 ............isn't loud at all like i thought it might be but really deep on my truck-->> deeper than i thought it would be for sure and very quiet in high rpm range i also noticed a big difference in low end torque from it alot better than the old glasspack and i just paid $105 for the muffler and the install i really love the deep sound from it too.......... well that's my story and advice lol hope that helps you a little
