Subject: Shifts early? IP: Logged
Message: Good afternoon everyone!
I just bought my first Dakota and for the most part I really love it. Its a 99 Dakota Sport with a 3.9 V6 automatic and 2WD. However, when I am accelerating on an on-ramp it seems to shift into a higher gear to early. Is this normal for the Dakota or is this something I should worry about?
I would really appreciate your e feedback.
Thank you

Message: Yep, same prob w/my V6 2000 Dak Sport. That's what prompted me to start doing mods. I now have an AirRaid cold air intake, 3" MagnaFlow, etc and NONE have helped this "problem". Now that I am a bit wiser (and poorer), I am looking at the TransGo kit or 3.9:1 gears to address the shifting issue.

Message: could just need a Tv cable adjustment
I can take my auto all the way to redline.
You might also want to flash the pcm so
the truck gets used to the way you drive not
some one else it already knows.
All those things are easy to do.
now you know thats..................

Message: Thank you for your input sicminds and second2none,
I have been thinking about starting some mods myself now. I think that a better gear ratio will be a big help, plus it really wouldnt hurt in pulling my camper. But, that brings me to another question. Where or how do you flash the PCM?

Message: Flashing the PCM is easy, just undo the neg battery cable off the battery and keep it off and then turn the key on and hold on for 3 seconds.
That will "flash" reset the pcm.

Message: your "flash" technic merly resets it to the factory defaults. To flash the pcm you need to be hooked up to a dealers computer and actually reprogram the e-prom in it.

Message: Hey everyone,
Thank you for all your input, I was gonna start doing as many of the free mods as I could get done today but it decided to rain so I'll have to put them off till another day. Anyways, you guys are a big help and I will keep you up to date on the results.
Have a great day!
