Subject: Torque Monster IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2k Dak, V6, 5spd.
I use the truck for hauling and towing. The V6 engine BITES in the torque dept.
Without going to a V8, what can I do to improve torque??
Blower? Pipes? Options and estimated cost would be appreciated. Will the tranny and rear-end handle it?
Top end speed is not important, I need stump pulling torque.
Thanx
Jim

Message: Sounds like the first thing you need to do is get the biggest rear gear you can stuff in your differential...probably a 4.56. Probably around $400-$500 installed?? Lots of things to do after that, but none of them would likely have a substantial effect on increasing your torque. A bigger TB and roller rockers might help some, then intake and exhaust.

Message: If you put 4.56 in the rear your truck will be running about 4,000 rpm on the highway! Gears will help, a lot, but I wouldn't go higher then 3.93 unless you put oversize tires on it.
I supercharger will definitely do it if you have $3k to spend. A cam swap might help too, switch to one that produces torque lower in the rpm range.
