Subject: The oddest Thing, this ever happen 2you? IP: Logged
Message: (caution 460 words follow)
Well I went out to start the dak about 1:30pm to start my move to another location. When I turned the key no rumble was heard just a loud clicking sound which I was familiar with, as it could be a dead battery or a loose negative connection. So I popped the hood and tighten the negative battery cable. Turn the key again and she fired right up..... And then died. Kept doing this over and over as it kept stalling out if I didn't keep my foot on the gas. I had to get moving so I went ahead and drove off came to the end of my street where I had to stop and look both ways and the truck stalled again. It continued to do this when I would have to let off the pedal. So I quickly learned to drive my auto like a manual in using two feet and shifting into neutral when I was approaching a stop.
Well I drove 90 miles and once I got into the parking spot the truck died again. Unloaded my stuff and I was off again to the local shopping plaza, drove there with it stalling again and once again stalled in the parking spot. Got what I needed from the store and started her up and drove off.
Weird thing here........
When approaching a stop sign I wanted to see if she still was going to die. But this time I came to a stop and she idle at 500 rpms and would almost dip down to low. Took a left and started to get up to speed(speed limit 55mph) and when it came time to shift into OD (4th gear) it wouldn't and then a check engine light came on. So I continued to drive to my place. When I got there she idled at 1k rpm when it normally does and didn't die in the parking spot. Let her sit over night. Got up to drive to class and the light was still on. Driving their now with only one foot and no stalling. Got gas, filled her up and then went to class and parked it with out it stallin.
Even wierded thing...........
When I fired her up after class she idled great sounded great and definitely was looking great and didn't stall and the CHECK ENGINE light was gone.
Now what the hell is this??????
Keep in mind I have a 98 dak auto that just
Achieve 70k miles with a 9" K&N Homebrew, 180 t-stat, MSD 6a,blaster3, 8.5mm, and recent oil change and cap and rotor change about 1k miles ago.
Could it be a failing msd 6a? Battery? Bad Gas?
o2 sensor? bad cat?
Or is it just a dodge thing
now you know thats..................

Message: I have gotten the TPS code before, it would come on and i would get it scaned and then the next day it would be gone. I have had it replaced before. It went real haywire last year about 3 months after i moded it. It was the code that said the TPS voltage did not agree with map. Got the map replaced a couple weeks ago as well as the IAC. I am thinkin that i have an old 5.9L TB, how do you tell if there the right one or not?
LOL intense i was going to call ya.....

Message: The exact same thing happened to me, except it took jumper cables to get it started. Wouldn't stay running unless I gave it a lot of gas. The problem with mine was just a dead battery. Do a search - you'll find a bunch of posts with "won't start" in the title. Maybe you recharged the battery enough to bring everything back to normal by driving around.

Message: Yes, check the battery. Those are the exact same things mine did when the battery died. It would run fine when jumped off someone else, but would run just like yours when trying to start on it's own.

Message: i had the same problemwith mine. i had it looked at and the mech said that it was some kinda air sensor. $200. it ran fine driving it around but when i would let off the gas, it would stall. there wasn't any problem starting it up though.

Message: after you replce the batt, one thing you can do is place it in drive with the a/c off and the e-brake on, and let it ilde.the computer with then relearn the idle. when the batt volt goes low the computer goes crazy. i work at dodge and we have that happen alot. replace your batt then reset the ilde and you should be fine.

Message: I had this hapend to me one day when I almost killed my batt, what happend is that the Tps learn got lost.
The TPS takes its base reading when the engine is cranking so if you are trying to help it start with gas you are setting a base TPS that is too high and when you let off the PCM sees too low a reading and the engine stalls.
Disconect the Batt for a minute or two then start it back up with out touching the throttle.
