Subject: Vaccuum? IP: Logged
Message: Just one quick question what should the vaccuum reading be at idle I checked mine the other day and it was at 17 when at idle and then when you stomp on the gas while driving it drops to pretty much zero.

Message: Direct from the Haynes Repair Manual for 1997-1999.
(I'm assuming you've got it hooked up right and the engine is warmed up)
6) Read the vacuum gauge; an average healthy engine should normally produce about 17 to 22 inches of vacuum with a fairly steady needle.
It then goes on to list a bunch of things that different readings mean and what to check. If your steady at 17 though, with a warm engine at idle, plugged into the intake manifold vacuum and not the throttle body vacuum, your fine. :0)

Message: Thanks the haynes manual I have doesn't mention anything about vaccuum just that the hoses should be inspected from time to time. I checked it at the brake booster just because of the ease of access, would it change the reading if I checked it from the intake?

Message: It might, I imagine it might be a little lower at the Brake Booster than it actually is.
