I figured I would share this information with everybody. There was a post earlier here that pointed to www.car-part.com for the V8 TBs. I just ordered my 5.9 from there for $45! The only other items you will need are the cable ($22 from the dealer) and a gasket ($.99 from Autozone). Hope this info helps.

1998 4x4 Ext. Cab, 5-speed V6, Dynomax UltraFlo, 180 T-Stat, Prothane bushings, Bosch Platinum IV, homemade intake, Rancho RS9000, Tonneau, Herculiner Sprayed-In, 31" Wrangler MTR, MOOG Balljoints and Ties, Powerslots w/ Raybestos PG pads

Ok, all you guys that keep saying that the dealer is charging $22 for the new throttle cable are making me think that the local dealer here is ripping people off.

Are you all getting discounts?

The dealer here in my town told me in was $40 just for the cable!
I know the tax markup for parts in TX is not that high. I think I will make a few phone calls!

does anyone have a part number for the gasket from AutoZone? Autozone in my area claims to not sell these. Dealer is a buck69 and I rather not support my dealer when I do not have to.

I'm furious... No matter where you go there is always someone trying to *#@( you. I was going to buy a throttle body from the rtdkota guy and I saw this post. So I looked online and called one of the salvage yards. I saw a couple for $35 and $45 so I called to see if any were availiable. One of the shops said that he had 4 but shipped them all to cali (rtdkota is in cali) In out the air the guy said "I SOLD THEM TO A SAM OUT OF CALIFORNIA" I hate middle men. That is so screwed up he buys them for 35 and 45 dollars and sells them to us at 100 and 115 and makes himself seem like a good guy by saying that he is throwing in a 99 cent gasket for free. Beware of that guy hes been doing everyone raw.

WOW, THANKS for the info brianl, got the TB WITH cable locally(150 mile drive) for $65 off a LOWWwwww mileage dak, like brand new!

Thanks for the PN Dale!

Does anyone have a detailed description of how to customize (grind) the TB? I sort of follow the principle, I understand removing the horn tops, but grinding inside the horn where the butterflies are, is kinda giving me the butterflies, if you know what I mean....

Attn: akaproph

FYI-- I purchase large qtys. of TBs for both R&D as well as OTHER people that rework TBs for a living (you go and figure that one out). The $35-$45 dollar TBs you are referring, 3 out of the 4 were boat anchors (from burned vehicles-- bearings cooked-- tried to scrape out the plastic welded into the TB to no avail-- junk-- wasted money)... Each TB I receive is checked out, cleaned, and ready for use. More than half of the TBs I have received needed major rework (thus have been disassembled and now are being 'reworked' by another company for other purposes). Most all have working sensors (but you should use your stock existing ones to be on the safe side with a known working set of sensors). Sure I make a little money, but no where near what you are implying... I provide a gasket as I have the gaskets in bulk (I build and sell F&B Billet TBs, but you'd never consider one as you are looking for a $35 deal). I was going to also start stocking the V8 TB cables too-- for $25.00, not some inflated price.

Are you going to bitch me out for not selling headers at cost??? How about Crower products??? Should I give you MY discount???

If you want to go out and try to find the correct TB yourself, go for it. Hopefully you don't get a damaged or marginal one your first time out--

I don't appreciate any reference to me doing anyone 'raw' or ripping them off-- you apparently are new the Dakota community--

If you wish to discuss this further, email me.

I haven't had the opportunity to buy anything from Sam yet, but I've corresponded with him through email...he seems like an upright guy to me, and I wouldn't have any problem with sending him my money. One should not jump to conclusions unless one has all the facts...

I'm just passing on the information that I've seen from other posts. Not everybody wants to spend the $100-$300 for a TB. You can take your chances and buy 2-3 of them from salvage yards and still be cheaper than buying one for >$100. I'm not dissing anybody who sells them for a profit. People should have options, though.

I bought my TB and gasket from Sam as well and I have no qualms with what I was charged. It still beats buying a brand new one from a dealer for $225. I'll continue to give Sam business because I trust him and his business practices. He does a hell of a lot better job than what Truck Performance.com does.

jrock817, I like the way the exhaust sounds. It has a low, deep rumble to it, but not too loud where it gives you a headache when you drive. I've had comments made "so, how do you like your V8". :) Dynomax's website has sound clips that you can play. I don't think they have anything for the v6 yet, though.
