I have a stalling problem, my truck will stall mostly at idle but stalls while driving along, while accelerating and decelerating, will stall in drive and park. I have replaced PCM, timing chain, O2 sensor, cam positon senor, idle air control motor, EGR valve, new gapless plugs, new wires, new dist. cap, new pickup plate, new dist. rotor, new ignition coil, new fuel pump and filter, new battery, new speed sensor, used water out incase water was in the fuel, also used fuel injector cleaner several times. Nothing has fixed my stalling problem, any help with this is appreciated.
thanks

Message: I am currently experiencing the same problems with my 93. I've done the fuel pump/filter thing so far and read most of the posts in this forum. The 3 things I read I don't see in your list are:
1. Somebody said the changed out the relays in the fuse box under the hood, even though they didn't appear bad, and that solved his problem.
2. Somebody else suggested the fuel pressure regulator. I've already checked on the cost and at $174 it's not going to be the next thing we try. I'm going down the crank sensor/pickup plate next, I think.
3. Another person suggested a spliced wire that becomes corodded (I found that message by searching under "quits" or "dies", I think.
One other thing I read was something about vacuum leaks.
Good luck!

Message: I had a similar problem with my '97 Dakota stalling. It turned out that the throttle body had to be cleaned (manually). The pour in injector cleaners did nothing for the problem.

Message: Thanks for the suggestions, the fuel regulator for the 95' is part of the fuel pump assembly, however i will try the relays! I have used some carb cleaner for the throttle body, is that what you mean by manualy cleaning?
thanks

Message: Changed hall effect, crankshaft sensor, and distributor and roter. Did not find the thread on the wire splice under the relay/fuse box till today. The wire was a mess but with two wirenuts and tape it is running fine. 95 Dakota Sport V6 3.9 mag.

Message: Jason, does it stall all the time? some of the time? while cold? hot? Full tank of gas? half tank? almost empty?
Last thursday my '95 4x4 3.9L started stalling and almost died a few times. Started on the highway, it would miss out, lose some power. Kept up driving in the city. I stopped and filled up the tank (about 14 gallons) and the issues went away. I'm going to check out my full tank and check for contaminants.

Message: Try checking your temp. sensor. It's only about 10-14 dollars and can really screw up your cold starts and even when it runs to full temp. I cant gaurentee thats what it is, but it's a good place to start.

Message: Check the distibutor gear and bushing, but be very careful marking the distributor while pulling it out. It can be tricky and has to be marked perfect. The 3.9 is notorious for tearing up the gear and causes those problems all the time.Good luck!

Message: I had the same problem with my 97 Dakota with the
V-6 engine. Found out the PCM (Computer)had an
intermittent short in it. Truck would run fine &
all of a sudden, it would stall. Sometimes it would
start right back up & sometimes I had to wait a few
minutes. Changed the PCM out & haven't had the
problem since.

Message: just bought a '99 dakota 4x4 for $1000. would run/drive fine till it reached operating temp then chug really bad then stall. Previous owner did plugs wires cap rotor thermostat water pump couldn't fix fix the problem. I got a OBD-II reader and got code P1391 and started down the list temp sensor replaced nothing next was crank position sensor bingo changed it. now it runs super smooth. the code reader was free to borrow from orielleys 400dep. and got me a good running dakota 4x4 3.9l for $1080.

Message: I have a 2005 Dakota 4.7l, when slowing down, backing up or
moving forward slowly it will stall just like the key was turned
off. It will however start right back up. This started right after I
replaced a dead battery.
