I am wanting some opinions. I have a 97 ccs 3.9 auto with 255/50/vr17 tires, CAI, Relocated IAT, 180 Stat, 3923 plugs, dynomax 17748, tb spacer (I know) brass cap/rotor, asp crank pully, V8 tb with horns removed, and the "s" hook hat hold down. Last week I pulled 16.61mpg with ac on most the time, and some hot rodding, I thought I was getting better then that. Should I be, or is that about average???

"with ac on most the time, and some hot rodding" i get like 12-13 mpg (although i have a 4x4) all i can say is....next time dont buy an underpowered 4000 lb truck and expect to get 25 mpg. daks aren't fuel efficient. deal with it

I know their not fuel efficient. I have had the truck 4.5 years. I just recently modified it (past 6 months) and I was wanting to know if this is average, above average, or below. IF its below, I am wanting/needing to find out why.

I have a '97 3.9 stock everything and am getting 18.5 mpg. That is no a/c and about 40/60 highway/city miles.

LI, I know it brings down MPG, thats why I stated it I was using air. As does hot rodding it bring down the MPG, thats why I stated it.

n9m, thanks.

Others, please post

00 dak 3.9 4x4 gets MPG
14-17 mixed(city/highway) 4x4 snow
16-17 w/ A/C mixed
17.5-19+ mixed
19-21 highway up to 70mph or 80, hmmm, or 90
23.3 highway driving in west coast mountains pulling speeds over 120mph downhill (highest my speedo)(it's a 4x4, I AM impressed)

7.1 hauling about 2 tons in back and covered trailor moving from west to east coast at 40 to 65mph highway. That wuz a MAD hurtz! Warped my front rotors too! The truck and trailor made the shape of a "V" looking from the side WITH a 4" lift on the towball. But dak made the move and it still runs well. I could not understand why the rotors warped, the front wheels were barely touching the pavement! LOL!

alacrity, I know what you mean. I pulled a 2800 lb show truck about 4 hours. I blew a shock, warped my rotors, and totaly trashed a rear bumper. But the dak pulled it.

Do any of you have mods on your truck, or are they all stock??

some "hot roddin " and AC 16-18

ride up to and over 100mph for
10 miles i get 15.1

When my 98 dak was stock at 30k it
was best getting 16 mpg with premium fuel

now with all my mods and on cheap 87 octane
i am getting better mpg, looks like the mods
didn't make it a 10 second dak over even a 15 second but they are payin off at the pump.

now you know thats..................

I have a 98 RC, V6 5spd and I get avaerage 22.3 MPG. This is running 65-75 with the A/C on. Thats up about 4 MPG since I bought the truck. RIght now, I'm waiting to see what effect, if any, the Extang soft tonneau cover that I just put on this week has on the mileage. Shouldn't take too long to find out, I run about 500+ miles/week.

Thanks on all the current postings. That cover should help quite a bit. I know I dont drive no where near what I use to. So I'm seeing more money in my pocket due to that, I just like to squeeze every penny I can on gas. Whats the average price on them soft bed covers?? Any flapping nosies, etc??

99dakman. on my 4x2 clubcab... mods are a 7 inch cold air intake from intense performance, autolite plat plugs (same as everyone else is using), dual exhaust using a single in/dual out glasspack (for now anyways-->upgrading in the next few weeks),moved ait sensor to the chrome air intake tub, adjusted tb sensor to 7.5v, reindexed the distributor-->>then took it to a dealer and had all previous pcm updates tooken out, accel high perf. wires , fender flares and the 275 60 R15 tires.. that's all for now and i can say that i keep my ac on constantly and have a lead foot and still doing good mph and plenty of power(actually hauled 3 ton of sand for my dad since his 97 ford F150 4.6 couldn't haul it lol..) but after my next 2 mods i'm hoping on alot better with the 1.7 rr's and throttle body swap

icemonkey,

FYI, most on here are running the cheap Autolites the plats don't work as well, something to do with heat dissipation.

I have a 92 CC 3.9, cat-back mufflerless duals, K&N drop in, Auto 3923s, 180 T-stat, 235/75 Wilderness ATs and 133K miles. typically, 18-25 with the A/C off and down to 15 with in-town A/C on. Don't really know too well, never pushed the gas too far. Guage dances.

K&N, '01 wheels, Window Tint, Harley-Davidson badging, red underbody kit, ext.
Window covers, Harley-Davidson mudflaps, custom cat-back exhaust,
head/taillight covers, ventshades side and rear, ram air on the way. Autolite 3923s, 180 T-Stat
