how much effect could the filter on the bottom of the pump have in the long run. My truck runs great at an idle and revs fine in park but once you get it on the road it just starts to cut out like its not even getting any gas.

If is a newer model, get yourself a fuel pressure test gauge at sears $40, and check the pressure comming off of the rail. 50psi @ idle is what it should be. It could be many other things as well.

it is a 91 with a 3.9. the manual says it should run 15psi.

That is strange! 91-96 are Gen II's and are the same engine. I have a factory shop manual and it says 49+/- 1psi.

I had the same problem with mine but mine is a 96 and it is the shop right now for a clogged fuel injector

I tried to just get the filter on the bottom of the pump. guess what the frieken thing costs 80 dollars. I just went with a whole new pump assembly which only costs 120. But it did fix the problem.

Simpleman, just so you know 91's arent the same, there TBI not SMPI, its not even a Magnum.
90&91=gen2 tbi
92-96=gen2 smpi mag

My Bad! I was under the impression 91-96 Gen II were the same magnum eng. I did remember the fuel systems are different though, after I posted. I know the 93 and prior have a fuel return line as well, but didn't know the pumps were different. Sorry!
