I was having a problem with my genll a while ago where it wouldn't start or turn over or anything. I assumed it was the starter so I had it rebuilt. well tonight it did it again after I washed it. now that I think about it it happened after I washed it the last time before i got it rebuilt. has ne1 had these type of problems is there a common place under the hood that gets water on it to cause this?

Most likely something electrical is getting wet. Whenever it dries off, it works again. Give it some time.

Could be your distributor cap, if that gets wet it won't start until it dries off.

that was the first thing I chcked Lesley it was dry I am assuming it was something around the edge. no water was sprayed from underneath. I washed at a coin-op place. I was doing a little looking around in the engine bay and in haynes manual it looks like the ignition control module on the inside fender of the passenger side could have gotten wet there was no tape or shielding on the plug at all.

This has happened to me before. The best thing to do next time is rip up a garbage bag and tuck it around electrical componants such as cap, rotor, etc. Once it dries it should be fine.

Yeah, I always bag my alternator, distributor and crank case filter if I'm shampooing or power washing my engine. I learned that the hard way after fouling two plugs on one side and having to limp home on 4 cylinders.

Actually, it's an APC. I got it from Crappy Tire, I think it was around $15.

Darryl, My guess is that your computer on the passenger fender is getting wet. I had this problem when installed my Jet chip years back. I now always just put a bag of some sort over the electrical parts, just to be safe!
Hope that helps...
