Subject: rear end IP: Logged
Message: can i just swap the third member in my rear end?
i have one from a 1970 or 1969 axle with a posi unit on it.... can i just swap this out?
or do i need a whole new axle?

Message: I've heard of that being done somewhere, but you'll lose the rear wheel ABS if you do. Afraid that's all I can offer.

Message: No, a stock 8 1/4 or 9 1/4 are carrier type rears, the gear set is in a permanant carrier. The "third member" your refering to is and old style housing that has the gears set in a removable "3rd member".
You will need to swap in the wole 8 3/4 rear to be able to use the 3rd member.

Message: Sense were talking about rear ends, I need to know if someone knows the torque specs for a 3.92 rear end, I need to re-torque my rear end. Anyone know. Im going to be doing it this friday, Thanks
