Subject: Auto trans. POLL IP: Logged
Message: I'd like to take a poll on Auto transmisions for the Dakota. I'll calculate the results over the next couple days and post them.
Two questions:
1- Do you have a manual or Auto transmision?
2- If you have an auto trans. has it needed minor or major repair and if so at what mileage.

97,000 miles, hasn't been touched since it rolled outta the factory. Same filter & fluid etc. I'm scared to death to touch it cuz it works soooo well it'll probably disintegrate if I do anything to it!

Took it to the dealership at around 10,000 miles for the thing slipping out of gear at speed, dealer worked on Throttle position sensor, that seemed to cure it, although I still don't know what that had to do with the problem!

Message: 92 A500 Auto, 131K she slips when cold real bad. (2200-2500 to get moving up a hill and that's crawling) can't decide what gear to go into sometimes. The only problems I've had were due to a recall a few years ago. They did more harm than good. One quick question. Do these trucks come with tranny coolers? I didn't think so but i hear on here of guys putting them on. A friend thought it was integrated into the main radiator.

It sounds like your torque convertor may be bad. Either that, or your low on fluid, which I assume you checked and your not.

Message: I was told it was just the tranny "slipping" a torque converter can affect slow operation. I was under the impression that it just locked in at highway speeds. Also the sluggishness goes away usually in about 1/2 mile or when I hit 3rd gear. I realize part of it is the clutch fan. It sounds like an airplane on takeoff.

Message: I have a 93' 2wd with a 5.2l/auto and 3.55. Bought the truck from an old man last year when it had 85,000 miles. The trans was rebuilt at 79,000 and use to stall out because the moron that rebuilt it pinched the crank senor wire between the block and bell housing. Got the problem fixed but the v.s. sensor is going and is making the trans shift funny when coming off of full throttle. Truck has 100,000 miles now. It is the worst shifting trans at part throttle that I have ever driven with. It's a dog of the line with that pathetic 1st to 2nd shift. The problem that cause the rebuilding was said to have been a clogged cooler line. My uncle's 904 3spd works like I want my trans to work. If it spisses me off any more it will break under my abuse and I might replace it with a jerico 5spd. Or maybe a street/strip 727 with a gear vendor over/under drive? Will see!

88,500 only problem is the gasket is starting to leak between the tranny and the transfer case.only leaks if the truck sets for more than a couple of days. no transmission problems though.
