Thank you dan, what do you think it does?? I am thinking about taking it out, but I am sure dodge wants a pretty penny for that part.

your truck will detonate if you take those 'thingies' out....j/k

those flaps are baffles. I think, i may be wrong, but i think they reduce the noise. If this was a millionare question i'd say I am 80% sure. Maybe pole the audience?

take off your airhat and look inside, you will see some metal flaps (baffles). Yank them out and tell us what happens.

Dale,

My guess is that the baffel keeps the air coming into the hat from just spinning around and acually directs the airflow down into the throttle body. Again this is only my guess.

Either way the flaps do create a lot of turbulence, flaps or no flaps. It seems the stock airhat is very inefficient. Maybe somehow we can attach a bent tube directly to the TB. I do not have any ideas yet, and there is defiantly some design constraints; such as adequate room for this.

Now K&N does have a product that gets around this, as they replace the airhat too. But since not all of us have the cash to spend well have to make do.

So, think about it. I’ll take some measurements and try to come up with a design that bolts up to our home brew intakes.

Hey, also there is no law in taping some holes into the TB to fit our design…many possibilities.

Thanks guys, I was thinking the plastic flap, I know the metal ones are for support so you dont crush it. But anyway dont take them out right?? I was looking at a TB hat for a 2000? tahoe ( I know chevy) But it has a "spiral" design to it. Think that would work better??
