Subject: I wanna grip and go stupid fast! IP: Logged
Message: How much NOS can I feed through my 93' 3.9 with 90,000 on the clock without risking my transmission falling off or blowing a head gasket? Also, a big issue, TRACTION! How will I get my best grip? Slicks are not an option. Any info is much appreciated.

Message: Well I cant help you with the transmission and stuff cause I dont know, but I do know a little about getting traction.
You have several options depending on what kind of money you want to spend.
You Could:
a) get some bags of sand and throw them in the box, kinda cuts into the total boost power of the NOS though
b) get a tonneau cover, they weigh a good 200 lbs or more, they give the truck some aero dynamics, elimates tail gate drag and look good all at the same time.
c) get wider tires, 65 series tires have way more gripping area than a 75 series tire.
d) IF YOU WANNA LOOK LIKE COMPLETE IDIOT you could get one of those stupid ugly fins for the truck that sit on the top of a tonneau cover. God I hate those things, the guy who came up with the idea of a fin on a pickup must be a complete IDIOT, they are worse than the ones on ricers.
e)If you got lots of money to spend you can get an air ride system installed in your truck on the front and the back and then have total control of weight shifting.
that is preety much about all that I can think of at the moment, so yeah there are a few ideas, personally I would go with options b and c, and if you are still need more traction go get sandbags.

Message: Thanks for the ideas, however air bags would do more damage than they would help. Air-bags are an awful suspension to have for racing, they cause body sway coming off the line, and you just can't get a good launch out of them. Not meant to race with. However, I will take into consideration the bed cover, I've wanted one of those anyway, however I don't want a 60 series tire, I want a 40 or 45 series, I'm getting 17" R/T rims.

Message: on a automatic tranny if you try a nitrious shot call a tow truck first as you will need one on a V6 tranny before the first run is over. Don't know why they did it but the V6 tranny is a pc. of junk comparing to the one in the V8.

Message: I've heard of the V6 tranny lasting as long as 300,000 miles. That's the automatic too, mind you. Are you sure about that? Mine has 90,000 and still shifts hard and runs like a champ.

Message: alright well heres your prob bud first of all youll need the 40 series for this or you wont grip at all. If you get the tonneau cover for the truck than as rob said you might whant to get a quick release wing for the rear this is needed for rear air displacement this pushes down on the back of your truck although ugly its fully functional and a basic want and necesity for drag traction. thirdly your gaskets better have a death wish if they want nos spray when you hook it up youve got to be full blown retarted for not replacing all seals and gaskets with performance parts just to the fact they wont stand the heat and will fry at the instant the spray is added and youll be f'ed. Fourth put this into consideration your truck is going to need to be port and polished reinforced and ready for high revving another thing retards with no mind or brain will think about doing when placing in nos. Now for your tranny...
...come on bro..
it is STOCK learn those five letters in that line your trans will blow along with your drive train when nos is put in clutch, gears, trans axle, axles, differential etc... need to be replaced with a higher stage that can withstand the force being exerted listen to your guys in here i have a hint they tell mostly the truth first your gears are meant for a trucks duties therefore you need to space out your gear ratio for a little more speed or youll be redlining in fifth half way through the race spraying the nos like you just dont care. Secondly, think before you do this to your trans gears nos is a sudden boost of 50 to 500 added hp to your already existing power and the power is added instantly therefore your trannies gears may and prob will need to be replaced with stronger gears due to possible tooth chips on the gears when nos is sprayed into your chambers it is never good to go from 3000 rpm than imediatly slammed into 5000 rpm from an foreign source this will cause grindage wear and broken tranny parts down the line
oh and never take off the line spraying the nos or your going to blow the truck instantly.
but thats all i got for you
now go off take some of this advice and please do head my warnings for they are from experience
i do know what i talk about when it comes to cars and engines buuuuttt... have fun and good luck with the racing bud...
