Geting a new muffler/Cat-back for my 2002 V6 3.9L 4X4 auto 4speed. I'm thinking about the Dynomax Super Turbo. Heard that it's not too loud inside but still gives good performance and sounds a little throaty outside. But what about pipes? should I stick with my stock or go with something bigger?

I'm going to get a new single pipe exhaust system for my girlfriend's 98 3.9L 4X4 Dak and have decided to get a Flowmaster 40 series muffler because I have the same one on my 5.9L Ram and it sounds awesome. I have the same question as AJ - what size pipe would be the best? 2.5" or 3"? I don't think Flowmaster makes a muffler that has a 2.5-in and a 3-out, so to have a 3" pipe, an adapter will have to be made afer the cat to increase the size from 2.5" to 3", right?

I don't know if this helps you but at WWW.DYNOMAX.COM the tech support page has a chart about exhaust size compared to engine size and hp rating.

If your only doing bolt-ons, I would stay with a stock size high flow cat like (dynomax, random technoligies, magnaflow, etc.) and keep as much low end as possible.

If you know your going to get force induction/all out N.A. go for the 3 inch.

I just installed a Flowmaster Cat-back system on our '97 3.9 Dak--PN# 17173.

The kit installed very easily and it does have 2.5" inlet and 3" outlet muffler with mandrel bent tail pipe section that fits better than stock!

For the price(I bought from Summit) it seems to be a good deal. I really like the sound too and the Dak seems to have more torque!

MoPar to Ya!!!
