Subject: Back from the track... IP: Logged
Message: Ok we will give the good news first:
Ran great tonight as compared to last week
R/t 1.008
60' 2.511
330 6.691
1/8 10.173
mph 70.19
1000 13.209
1/4 15.789
MPH 87.20
Compare that to last week 17.0? at 82
finally got that 100 shot figured out.....well
maybe
now for the bad news..
So on the third run down the track i hit the
button and immediately notice that something
isnt right, then the truck started to ping so i
shut the nitrous down then BANG a good
explosion and when i say explosion i mean
flames...so now im thinking i just threw a
pistion through the roof of my truck...
get it back to the pits pop the hood, i blew the
bejesus out of that air hat, i mean it
disintegrated. So needless to say no more
runs for me for the rest of the night... scared
the hell out of me, even though i was the
a-hole that bailed on the n20 when fuel was
still flowing(it spirts a little even after the
solenoid closes), so im not blaming the
nitrous system. But now i have a whistling
noise ( i think i blew my TB gasket) it only
whistles when the throttle blades are closed
so i know its a vacuum leak somewhere.
Anyway, i think im gonna sell the nitrous
system and start building this truck up for a
turbo (BERND!) bc that 15.7 felt waaaaayyy
nice. So if anyone wants a practically brand
new nitrous system, ill sell mine fore $400
with a n2o gauge and all, and i might just pay
for shipping on it too! Bernd i hope you finish
those turbo kits soon, damn i want one.
BTW drove the truck home, no harm no foul.
Now i have an excuse to get one of those
MAGNUM air hats! Like i said it was a dumb
driver that caused the air hat explosion not the
kit! if anyone is interested drop me an email at
jcr7079@yahoo.com or just post an offer on
here!
See ya,
Josh

Message: Congrats on the 15.7! I think you also learned one of the valuable lessons of laughing gas: It ain't no laughing matter. It WILL bite you in the ass, it's just a matter of when and how bad.
As for the squeal, don't worry about it, that's what the TB is doing all the time. That airhat covers up that noise with the silencing baffles in there. I put a 10x3 open-element filter on my Dad's 3.9 truck and it has the same noise. It's normal and gets quieter as the engine heats up the TB.
Hope your kit sells soon. BTW- that 15.7 is what it's like to drive a stock 4.7 truck down the track. Pretty nice, huh?
hahahahhahahaaaaaaBOOM!

Message: This whisling noise is pretty loud, with the
airhat off i can hear it with the doors shut from
inside the cab. I mean its not like a screaching
but you can definetly hear it. Thats really
normal?
Heres a question, i have to drive to the
dealership to pick up a new airhat, and i have
to drive my truck, im really worried about
driving with out an air filter, is there anything i
can cover the throttle body with, towel, etc. just
to help keep stuff out of there?
Thanks,
Josh

Message: Josh,
sorry about your bad experience with the kit. One thing that i noticed with mine was that there was always a little gas rundown on my intake tube... found out that it was just blow out from the engine... basically that it wasnt being all injested by the engine.
what all is included in the kit?
edelbrock intake, modified manifold, headers, flowmaster, 24lb injectors, mp throttle body, 1.7 rr, msd 6a, msd wires, blaster 3, b&m shifter, shift kit, coilovers, drag shocks, ladderbars, panhard bar, 150# coils, electric fan, oil cooler, 180 thermostat, autolite 3923, corbeau seats, slicks, mojo

Message: Oh yeah, the squeal is definitely loud enough to hear in the cab. As you drive, the squeal should almost go completely away as you hit the gas harder. That's the air coming past the just-barely-open butterflies in the TB and when you're idling, it's the air coming past the Idle Air Control pintle.
If you can't borrow a car or get a ride to the dealer, I'd say drive to the dealer verrrry early in the morning before a lot of cars are on the road. Less dust & pollution has been kicked up at that point.
Take a pair of pantyhose and cut a piece big enough to fit over the throttlebody and use a rubber band to hold the piece in place. That ought to help, too.......

Message: The kit includes all the stuff that comes
straight from NX plus a nitrous pressure
gauge. I also built a switch housing for the
momentary switch, but i still have the bracket
for the WOT switch. I will also include some
zip ties and some extra wire.
Why do you want the bottle again Intense?
:-)

Message: I know a guy who has been driving around with no filter or airhat (just bare carburator) for over a year. It's an old beater he doesn't care about but it still runs fine. 5 or 10 miles of driving won't hurt anything as long as your not driving down dirt roads. I wouldn't worry about the panty hose either, it won't filter any small particles like an airfilter does.

Message: It wasnt really a bad experience, i mean i did
run some good times i thought
(comparatively) i was able to hang with an r/t
after about 330 ft (couldnt hook up) it was just
a mind lapse on my part to get out of the
throttle that fast and cut the nitrous. I noticed
before that the fuel spirts even after you shut
the solenoid so i should have just
remembered that. Like i said no harm no foul,
im actually very happy with the kit, the blow out
wasnt its fault. Already got a new airhat
ordered (will be here tomorrow) and im back
on the road!
Thanks,
Josh

Message: Hey, congrats on the great times! What are your other mods?
I've been unable to get lower than 17 so far, but am determined to get low 16s next time out. My best reaction time is .566, I'm going to shed a little weight for my next trip to the track (my truck, not me).

josh,
yes... i want my bottle back! hehe
that stuff is addicting! i tried a supercharger and it was nothing like the nitrous... you know that sudden kick in the nutz power. I have also thought about the turbo deal but have just gotten too lazy (turbo is still in the garage). I am just curious why it ignited though? what octane fuel were you using? what shot were you using? do you have a Jet module?

Message: Thanks Intense. I've only made in all about 7 runs now, so I hope I can do better.
99DakJR- You made that time with a V6 4X4!!!!! That is incredible!! I think when I get my 3.92s installed that should help too.
I really don't think I need nitrous - I've got a great big 360 sitting in the back room off my kitchen waiting for me to get working on it. I can't justify spending any more money on my truck, especially to mod my sixer. I need more practice at the track, and I think shedding some weight will help too.
Also, I have heard GREAT things about the X-brace, I want to get one soon.

Message: One fast 4x4 ay?
Intense: I inspected the whole set up and
checked on the computer when i got home,
the MAP sensor showed no increase or
decrease that was way beyond normal during
the run. This confirms my idea that the ignition
was caused by me shutting the throttle body
plates just as i was shutting down the nitrous.
The fuel still flows from the fuel jet for a bout a
tenth of a second longer than the nitrous(NX
tech told me that) this is due to the fact that the
fuel prssure is lower than the nitrous pressure
causing a "bleeding effect" in the fuel jet.
I was running the 100hp shot, ran it twice
before that with no pinging at all. I was running
94 octane with problend additive. I think i also
have a leaky belly pan gasket and thats why it
was pinging, (not bad, but noticeable). We
were bracket racing when it happened the
other truck red lighted and i saw the yellow
light on my side light up giving me the win and
thats initially why i bailed out of the nitrous, the
pinging was manageable but that was also a
factor in why i bailed out.
Intense are you interested in the system?
Thanks,
Josh

Message: nah.... i cant hand over $400 right now.
When i ran my 100 shot i ran 93 octane (best pump gas down here) and put in NOS octane booster that is suppose to add 7 points. I also had the 3923 plugs and a 180 thermostat.

Message: Josh, you're a nut. You never mentioned the damn 4x4 part!! Complaining about 17.0's in a 4800 lb V-6 truck is silly in the first place. But not as silly as running 15.8's in a 4x4 V-6 truck!!
Hope LlBlackDak's whiney ass doesn't read this post. He'll complain about how slow his truck is and then NOT buy your NX kit.
Nice work on smackin the track!
