Subject: starts hard, stalls IP: Logged
Message: '95 Dakota Sport, 3.9L V6, 120,000 mi. Began starting hard a few weeks ago. Cranks for 10+ seconds w/o starting (warm or cold), usually fires on the second try. It's now stalling whenever I push the clutch in at any speed. New plugs, cap, rotor, air filter. I've read through the forum and it looks like it could be any of about a dozen different things causing this. Just wondering if anyone can help me narrow it down some. Much appreciated.

Message: Another thing. It now idles at about 400 rpm, where it used to idle at about 750.

Message: Ok, maybe I can simplify this. I have what appears to be a fuel pressure test valve near the rear of the throttle body. Should this be pressurized even if the engine isn't running? I'm getting absolutely nothing from it. No fuel, no air, nothing. Haven't tried it with the engine running. I thought I read on another message that the efi fuel system was always pressurized whether the engine was running or not. I could be wrong though. Maybe this is the problem? Who knows. Thanks again.

Message: It -does- sound like it could be a fuel delivery problem... I know when I cleaned my fuel injectors that the rail was -still- pressurized somewhat after sitting overnight (Mmmm! Gas in the face!). But I don't know about a test valve back there...

Message: I had the same problem. I have a test valve also on my 93. I changed the fuel pump and filter, and when i got done i bled the fuel system with that valve (Its kind of like a shrader valve off a bike innertube.)The fuel filter was clogged causing me to stall, and the low idle. After I changed that, it was fine. But a few days later the pump went. Just Bad luck i guess. But it is fixed now, so you should try changing the fuel filter.
