Subject: Manual Tranny??? IP: Logged
Message: hey im new to the dakota... i bought it off my
uncle for dirt as the tranny is gone. Im pretty
sure that it had the 5speed. (btw - i own 78
3/4ton ram, and drive a jeep cherekee. mopar
muscle is it for me!)
my questions are...
did dodge make a 4speed to fit behind the
3.9?
is the five speed really as unreliable as the
junkyards are telling me it is? (they want $900
for one with over 100k on it and the guy went
on about how its one of the worse tranny's
ever yada yada)
anybody have a spare mtranny that they are
willing to let go of cheap?
anyone rebuilt there own?
thanks very much in advance!

Message: I don't know about the 5-speed being unreliable... I hear a lot of people complaining about the auto's though...
$900 seems a bit steep for a non-rebuilt tranny, to me.
What year is the Dakota? It's the same bolt pattern as the 5.2L V8 back there, so you can get a tranny off one of those as well.

Message: thanks for your quick reply.... that is definitely
good info on the the 318. i might have access
to a 4 speed out of a RC that has 318. i was
hopin gofr info like that.
on a side note - i just got 2 more quotes
online one for $600 and the other for $700
both include shipping and limited warranty.
that sounds alot better...
this basically goign to be my daily driver. its in
good condition so i plan to get rims and tires
and drop it a bit... everything is nice except for
tranny... oh yeah its a 91. i figure ill get better
mileage in the dakota than in my jeep with
33's (im lucky to get 14mpg.)
thanks again...
