hey,

The problem with my truck was a bad distributor cap and rotor. It just went out.

It seems as if it has lost a little performance, or maybe it is my imagination. I am glad it is running again, though.

How much horsepower can you expect from a 180 degree thermostat? It is no different than when the engine is cold, right?

I am still thinking about a throttle body. I just need to find one to buy. I would like one of the performance throttle bodies, but I wonder if my 3.9 is actually worth this much money. I guess I would much rather invest in a V8.

I have one other question. Are there such things as toners to put on your exhaust? They make it sound better or something? I am thinking about getting these and some pipes that face the ground, to hopefully make it sound a little stronger.

Yeah there's adjustable toners and resonators, but they never worked for me, for like 80 bucks you could get a flowmaster muffler which sounds awesome and gives you slightly more power.

92 Dak, go to car-parts.com and find a TB in your price range for same year +/- one year, so say 91-93 V8. And then clean it, and put it on. Their are some years in their you have to gind on some little part to make it work right, but heard it was no biggie at all. Give that a try. Also get you a performance muffler, dynomax, flowmaster, gibson, etc. You will be surprised buy the extra power from it alone.

Yeah, my Dakota died on the freeway one day ('92, with 80,000 mi).The cause was a broken distributor rotor, evidently caused by a worn distributor bushing and gear, which I hear is not all that uncommon. The dealer replaced the bushing and gear, so I'm looking forward to another 80,000 trouble-free miles!

Glad to hear it was a cheap fix dude!!

If you dont want to blow alot of cash for a name brand than just get a junk yard V8 TB form car-parts.com (like Dale suggested).

You WILL feel the difference in that mod and I'll bet its safe to say that a name brand TB would give marginal hp gain over a factory one, not worth a few hundred more in my opinion.
