why do 3.9s red line at such a low rpm. mine is at 4700 so i just assume that all 3.9s are like that. i was just curious?

Mostly because stock, they don't make any power above 4000 RPM or so. For some odd reason mine will rev -above- 5200 (I have no idea -how- far, it freaked me out), I'm not sure why. None of my Mods were supposed to move the rev limiter...
Anyway, like I was saying, the power band on a stock engine drops off rapidly above 4k RPM or so. I'd be worried about revving to high without replacing the lame-arse stock timing chain. With the track records -those- things have, I'd want to get a decent one on before I pushed to high in the RPM range. :0)

One factor that may also be in play is that the automatic will generally shift lower than the manual so it will last longer. The engines red lind is 5250rpm acording to mopar stats, so on manual trannies the rev limiter should be at around 5200rpm to make sure you arent going to blow the motor.

I have a 90 that wants to rev up but it wont get past 4200rpm (I NEED MORE POWER). Has new dist.(stock), Accel coil, and a glass pack(with duel tails).Thinking it might be time for a camshaft has quite a few miles on it. Someone help me please.

on all the new daks dont they all rev limit at 5200?
and my truck doesnt gain power till about 3000 rpm's and it has full power till i hit 5000rpm's, and was like that when it was stock too
