Subject: open element vs cold air intake

I amm lookin for a new air intake system for my 95 cc. A couple of my buddies have suggested putting one of those big open element filter instead of a k&n cold air system. any ideas?

well, IF you can get a real cold air, i'd go with that. the problem with both is that you're sucking in just WAY too much hot air with both systems. now, i'm not to informed on the subject of the open-air elements, but i'm not sure you can find one that will fit the v6's. again, i'm not sure. but if i were you, i'd get a "Cold Air" and just stick with that.

i had a 14" open element filter on my 5.2 for 2 years. the filter started shrinking so i decided to change to the K&N gen 2 because i thought it would give more power sence it sucks in cold air.
well i have noticec a SMALL amount of power increase with the gen 2, but i dont know if its worth the extra $135.

I had a open element on my dak for a while. I noticed that when the wheather was chille it ran really crisp. but if it wormed up, or if I had to sit in traffic where the engine would get a little warm, it got a little sluggish. I decided to make my own cold air kit. 97up air hat, silicone 3" tube, mendral bent tubing and a open mouth conical air filter from your local rice shop. Placed the air filter right behind the grill. "results" better all around performance. espacialy when your speed starts rising 50 and up.
