Subject: Any solutions??? IP: Logged
Message: I have a problem that just occured last night. I went out to start my truck that had been sitting for about 6 hours and it would not start. It sounded like it was the battery b/c it would bearly turn the starter over after a few tries. I jumped it about hour later b/c of work but it would not stay running and the only way for it to stay running was to keep the throttle in so I had a coworker hold the gas in a little while I disconnected the jc's and then we left but why would this do this. Is this an early warning sign for something that is about to go out like a sensor or something? Today I went out and it started up and the gauge takes a little while to get up to over the 14 and it idles funny until it reaches that point. So is it the alternator, battery or a sensor. The gauge stays above the 14 after it reaches it. I also have a stereo system that pushes around 800 watts. Do you think that this may have damaged my alt. or bat., I have put a 1 farad capacitor in there so it is suppose to help out. Tell me what you think.

Message: richard, replace the battery. when the truck
starts, the computer is still drawing from the
battery. it takes a few seconds for the alternator
to kick in. a bad battery would cause the engine
to rough for a few seconds until the alternator
begins its work. this is not uncommon either for
these trucks. take

Message: I had the same exact problem. I tried starting her and she wouldn't. The only way wqas to hit the gas right when it started and before it died and it would stay running. when I let the gas go she'd die again. It's the battery. I'll bet my life on it.

Message: Richard,
You did the right thing by adding a Cap to your system 'cause if you don't it WILL damage your alt. A 1 farad Cap is good up to 500W, so if you add another .5 farad in parallel you'll be fine. But the other guys are right, replace the battery. I was a car stereo dealer for 7years and I've seen it all. Good luck!

Message: I went through that too. I replaced the battery and the plugs and wires, no more stalling.

Message: Alright thanks guys. I did run my system for a while without that cap, but only for a month or so. I think that by listening to the radio with the truck off a couple of times for too long might have damage the battery. I will see if that works and if not then I don't know. I appreciate all of the advice. I have already replaced the battery once, or shall I say the dealer did, but I guess you have to pay the price for have a high watt stereo system that is not completely finished. Joe kRaSh, when is it necessary to add another battery. If I get the amp I need then I will be pushing roughly around 1200 watts or so and that seems like it would be a lot for one battery. Unless I get two caps to go along with it. I don't know. I will find out the hard way.
