 Subject: Funny sound coming from dash

I have a 93' SC V6, sometimes when I have the radio down I hear a sound that sounds like pop corn popping (but very muffled, not loud at all)coming from my dash, this doesn't always happen, more or less sometimes, what is it? Oh and I sometimes here very breif "squeeking" sounds coming from the front of my engine, anyone know what that is? It almost sounds like a belt that's chirping? I'm begining to thank I have a parakeet under my hood that is popping popcorn! Any ideas?

Does it sound more like a quick rattle ? If you only hear it when the engines cold or near the begining of acceleration it could be that you have exhaust rattle or a heat shield has come loose and is rattling. And the belt squeeking .. I have that too... You can get belt lube and spray it where ever you hear it coming from.. and that should get rid of it ?

when i got my '95, it took me about six months to figure out the culprit. have you noticed your noise when the cruise is set?
mine was the vacuum pump for cruise control

Hey Paul the only vehicles that I have ever seen that have a vacuum pump for the cruise control are supercharged engines as the vacuum that is created in a normaly aspirated manifold is enough to do the job.
