Message: I have been going to this site almost daily and reading all the posts. I finally got my Kota, (a month of waiting). I "upgraded" from a Wrangler 4-banger to a RC Sport V6 5-speed 4X2. I love the thing. I was surprised the V6 (3.9) had so much giddy-up, (3.55 gears) and with the 16 inch tires and fender flares (the ones that come on 4X4 and RTs) the truck looks tougher than it is. Hell I put 100 miles on it today alone! I love it, my only pet-peeve: The Tach goes up to 7,000, but redlines at 4,800, and their are no "red hash marks" to notify that. The induction is going to be uncorked this weekend, and a tonneau the next. Just wanted to say this is a great site, and if there is anything I need to look out for, (precationary measures) with the V6 please let me know! Thanks!!

Message: Just take it easy with the throttle or you might flip the truck backwards if you don't know how to control a wheelie!! : )

Message: congrats on the best combo of dakota out there!! i've got a 2000 one similar, only with 3.21 gears. i've got the old style tach with redline, and the numbered gauges...i don't like the new ones. One hting to watch for is pinging...these are notorious for it. However, you can prevent it, and get a little more power by installing a 180-degree t-stat in place of the stock 195, and installing Autolite plugs, p/n 3923
sorry for rambling....enjoy the dak!!

Message: Yeah, I miss my 5 speed but I don't miss the 3.21's. Now I have an auto, so I'll just throw in a shift kit and some 3.93's and call it a day.

Message: Randys Ring and Pinion is a good source for gears. I put the 235/70 15's on my truck so they are the same height as the puny stock tires. Will be getting the RT's someday. Here is a copy of Randy's reply when I enquired about 3.93's and a limited slip:
3.90 ratio for 8.25" is $231.00, master overhaul kit is $64.35 or mini kit for & $9.72. Factory positraction unit is $147.38 and everything is in stock.
Hope this helps. Don't have install prices. Check with a local shop for that.

Message: Take it to the lot and trade it in. Otherwise, stick with the V6.
