Subject: Hot Temp IP: Logged
Message: I was on my way to go fishing last nite, when all of a sudden the check gages light came on. Checked the gages & the temp gage had crawled up to 260 & then all of a sudden droped back to normal. Was wondering if anyone else has experinced this type of problem. By the way my Dakota is a 99-V6.

Message: Sounds like an electrical problem, maybe some wires going to the sensor are shorting to ground making the gauge peg, then when you hit a bump it dropped back to normal???

Message: I had this happen once on my 98 Dak. Shortly after I changed out the thermostat and replaced the coolant in the radiator. Drove it home and let it cool down. Took the cap off and realized that I didn't fill the radiator all the way like I thought I did. Even the over flow tank, which I over filled, was empty. Refilled and made sure I got the air out of the system and things have been fine since then.
