I have a 2002 3.9 V6 Dakota SXT. I know nothing about performance parts. I was just wondering if anyone could help me with a few things. I hear and read about all kinda of performance parts and stuff, but I don't know what anything does or costs or whatever. So, could you, fellow dakota owners, help me. Just some things off the top of my head (what is it, what does it do, how does it change my truck, price, anything): throttle bodies, cold air intake, cat back exhaust, after cat exhaust, headers, ummm, that's all I can think of right now. So, if u could help me out by posting something here or you can even email me at ChreeJr@prodigy.net. Thanks alot.

first of all cat back exhaust and after cat exhaust are the same thing. they both refer to the exhaust system after the CATalytic converter, ie. muffler, tailpipe
this is the first thing to be replaced in my opinion. not only does it give more performance but gives your dakota lots of attitude. i have a flowmaster 40 series cut right after the muffler which sets off car alarms as i drive thru parking lots, lol.

Thanks for that info Blakdak01. Don't drive by my truck, i need to get the sensitivity of my alarm turned down. That's the exhaust I was thinking about getting. So does that do anything to gas mileage. I've asked that question on here before, but I got different answers. I've been told that performance parts or more powerful exhaust wastes more gas.

actually a better exhaust will slightly improve gas mileage if driven the same way. gas mileage will sometimes go down however if u put the pedal to the medal more often, which is what many people do when they add performance parts. my mileage isnt any better than before because i love mash to pedal and hear my flowmaster
