Subject: Which Air Intake system? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2002 Dakota 2WD, V6, 3.9 and I'm thinking about adding an intake system to give me some more HP and MPG. I've been doing some research and there is alot out there (Airaid, K&N FIPK, etc. - plastic vs. aluminum pipes) I'm looking for one that would fit without having to relocate sensors and bend A/C lines. I'm also thinking about attempting to make a "home brewed" one but I do have concerns about the pipes with regards to heat and melting.
Any suggestions on what's the best route to go?
Thanks!!!!

Message: You can buy an air inlet tube for a 96 integra from autozone, it is 3 in dia and has the correct bend. Its about 40 dollars and is chrome. Add a 6x9 k&n for about 40 you have a great intake for around 80 dollars.

Message: I have a Volant system. I didn't have to relocate anything. I did have to bend the support brackets a little to make the bracket properly support the air hat. Make sure the air hat is seated flat or sealed against the TB and then bend the bracket to support it.
I heard of some problems with K&N Gen II air hat cracking. I think they have solved this problem but through some heart ache. You will have to relocate the cruise control if you have one.
I don't know too much much about Airaid and some of the others. A lot of people have gone with the home brew and there doesn't seem to be problems with them. Just make sure your state doesn't have visual inspections about altering emissions. Good luck.

Message: 88dak, Does the kit from autozone for the integra include an airhat? I have a 93 Dakota, so my airhat won't work.

Message: i just bought a cold air intake system from 360airintakez.com It is great and is cheaper than all the other ones. It comes with a heat sheild and aircraft aluminum piping that is powdercoated. You should check it out. Great deal and the filter is a K&N that is 9" vs. the others that have smaller filter 6", and 7"

Message: Well, Matt, I took your advice as well as other people I've spoken to, and I just placed an order for the 360 Air Intake. I like the heat shield and I also like the way it looks. You don't have to do any other mods to the engine parts to fit it in correctly. It should drop right in. I'll let you know how I like it after I install it.
