I really want to swap rear-end gears, but how do I find out what my current ratio is? I have my VIN number, but where can I decode it?

I looked up the VIN, but it doesn't tell the rearend ratio. Any way to test it? I tried jacking up one side and counting the ratio of turns of the driveshaft to rotations of the wheel, but I got like 1.75. Definately wrong.

Usually there is a sticker on the glovebox door on the inside, or in the glovebox somewhere that tells that information. On mine it's on the top of the glovebox. But I think it's going to depend on the year...

If you have a 98 like I have, you will find your gear ratio in 2 places.
Place 1-In the glove box. There will be a sticker that will tell you your gear ratio.
Place 2-On the axle. The rear axle has a small metal plate screwed in with one of the bolts. If you want to know that bad...go to and Dodge dealer and give them your VIN and they can look it up for you. If they charge you..tell them to go screw themselves and go to another Dodge dealer. The service write up guy can do this in seconds as well as the parts counter.

On my 93 there is a sticker on the inside of the hood right of center that tells you a general stats.(engine, trans, rear axle and gears)
