Subject: ABS, Brake and check Engine Light? IP: Logged
Message: I got in my truck this morning and felt like I was kicked inthe stomach. Literally, everything was fine yesterday. This morning, I get in and the Brake and the ABS light came on and stayed on. So I shut her off and started her again. Same thing.
So I start driving a little just to see what's up. Then she stalls at the intersection. I re-fire her and start driving and the check engine light comes on. So I pop the hood, but don't see anything strange. There is a faint semi-sweet/rotten smell, but it's not a really strong smell.
I decide it is not smart to make a 35 mile drive to work and head home. As I do, I'm checking all my gauges and everything is normal except that the speedometer is sitting on zero - even when I'm driving.
Does anyone have any ideas before I take her over to the shop for service?

Message: Maybe a bad speed sensor? I'm not sure on these dodges, but a lot of trucks use the rear abs sensor as the speed sensor, is the sensor goes bad it could make your speedo not work and throw the abs and brake lights. I don't know about the stalling, maybe since the ecu isn't getting any info from the sensor it doesn't know how to adjust the tranny and engine idle, etc, but thats just a guess, you may have more then 1 problem, maybe something electrical in the engine compartment?

$35.82... ABS sensor from dealer. Goes in differential. Will fix speedo and lights situation.
Doing this on the weekend... ANy suggestions or precautions for doing this? I heard it only takes about 15 minutes or so... Another thing, where do you check the fluid in the differential? I crawled under there and didn't find what I expected. I have a slow dribble coming out of the rubber plug on the back side... anyone else have this problem?

Message: I went ahead and took it in. Replaced what the called the RWAL sensor and checked the diff (it needed it anyway). $216 parts and labor. More than I wanted, but didn't have the time to do it all myself this time.
Jon, thanks so much for the recommendation. I think it helped the shop diagnose a lot quicker!!

Message: Glad you got it fixed, paying dealer prices sucks but at least you know it's fixed right and you shouldn't have any more problems.
