Subject: Newbie with Intake questions... IP: Logged
Message: I'm still pretty new to trying out engine mods, but I was wondering about after-market cool air intakes. I do know that they are less restrictive in that they don't have all the bends that the stock air box has. But if the idea is to pull in more cool air, wouldn't a cone filter sitting right there in free air next to the engine just pull in more hot air than the stock air box, which pulls in cooler air from the front right corner of the engine compartment? Also, I understand that to have any big improvement would require a whole series of mods, but will a new intake pipe show any enhancement alone, or would an aftermarket exhaust be needed at the same time to acheive any improvement?

Message: Hey Mike P
You and I have basicly the same truck but mines is an AUTO and the sport package.
With the Air intake. I thought about that too but Here's what u do.
In the front of the truck on the passanger side there is a rubber flap that covers the A/C lines.....PULL THAT SUCKER OFF....ahh much better...now MORE cool air can get into the engine bay.
Now with the intake. Its ALOT easier if you make your homebrew one. You want to try and get the Cone filter AS CLOSE to the hole you made in front as you can. if not. From what u stated you pull in nothing but HOTT air in from the engine.
I put my own on my truck and I noticed a BIGGG difference in performance. I need to get everything I can out of my 3.9L V6.
I also have pictures up on my web site.

Message: Dakotaman, nice truck. I might just try the "home-brew" intake some time.
As for the stereo, I don't think you have anything to worry about with the warranty. I dont' think any stereo mods viod any part of the warranty. Just make sure your power wiring and battery connection are done right, that might be the only gripe the dealer may have with a stereo.

Message: Thankx Mike P
I take alot of pride in my ride.
As far as the intake, u can use my design if you'd like. It cost me about $70 in parts. But I've already gooten that back from the saved gas, and increased gas mileage.
Good Luck with the Truck

Message: Radio wise, the dealers rarly say anthing if they are done RIGHT. Buy the wire connector, the dash mount kit. And don't cut panels and such. And when you take it in for repairs, make sure you take your radio face with you. I got mine back one time, and it had a diff cd in it, turned up, bass and treble had been changed, I was PISSED. Said something to the service manager, he just shruged his shoulders and said "i'm sorry" , I was like SCREW THIS.
