the only 340's out there come with a numbers matching $50,00 or more classic car. 360 crates run $3529 from summit racing. your tranny will bolt up but a 380 hp engine with 410 ft-lb of torque will explode it the first time you try to drive it. new 727 torqueflite from summit $1015.99 plus shipping richmond t-10 in case you have a stick-$1,329 plus shipping, same place. New better clutch $300 to more then $400 360 crates come set up for a 750 cfm carb that is not included $240 from summit. exhaust manifolds/ headers also not included, exhaust system need too. Radiator 'cause the one for your 3.9 is way too small $272 to $542 from summit. Engine mounts as the one for the 6 ain't strong enough, also wiring harness, engine controls/pcm or msd system, radiator fan, probably more stuff I did not think of. Mechanic to install it all, 5-8000 bucks. The reason I metioned mechanic was because you asked if it would bolt up to your transmission, that told me you do not know enough to do the job by yourself as anyone knowlegdeable would have known the tranny would explode or at least break and the bolt pattern on the 3.9 six and small block 8s are the same.

You are the one that brought up the 380hp/410ft/lb engine. If he was talking about a used one, he may have been wanting a regular 360 with about 250 hp. This would work with the stock transmission for a while. But, yes, an upgrade would be the desired option.

the stock V-6 transmissions are not near strong enough to handle the torque of any v-8 small or big block that is why D/C puts a different tranny in the 6's then in the 8's and is the only reason, the 8's put out a LOT MORE torque more then the stock 6 does. its not the hp that kills them but the torque. Hey just for refernce I am visiting Detriot this weekend and am a participant in the Woodward Ave. Cruise. I found a 340 6 Pack up here for the really low price of $60,000 of course it is in a cherry Dodge Challenger (looks a lot like the 'CUDA that is in the TV show Nash Bridges)and the engine has only around 3 thousand miles on it since it was built by a custom engine builder, o yeah it also has around 475 hp and 480 lb. ft. torque. That is the best I can do for you.

Dude, just get a Mag 318 outa a used dak and take your time rebuilding it with all the perf. parts you desire. You could get one of those 318s up to 250 hp Im sure. Thats alot in a dak too. Best to get a donor truck thats been body damaged or something. Then you swap everything from the engine and radiator, to the electrical system and computer. alot easier than matching parts from mail order catals.

Plumcrazy - don't tempt me!
I think the lowering is going to have to wait a bit. In the last month, I had the tranny fixed - $420, a dinged in fender - $440, and a hub replaced and brake job - $520. Add that to what I spent on the 360, and August turned out to be an expensive month, truck-wise. It had better behave for a while!

Yup, leaving Friday afternoon. We're hoping to get to Ennis, but Z-man's truck isn't 100%, so I dunno. I'm going to leave mine with Bill, my mechanic, maybe he can tell me why it went so crappy at Toronto Motorsports on Saturday. I met a bunch of folks from dodgetrucks.org, it was a good time, but I couldn't beat 17.5. Grr.
I drove to Moparfest right afterward, where I fell in love with this 440 charger:

Ok since we are on the engine swap subject, I assume noone read the thread I posted a few days ago, so I'll ask it again here.
I have an 87 that had a 4 banger in it, and I want to put a 340 or 360 in it. The only response I got about it had to do with "it might be tough getting a V8 in a Gen I" or sumthin to that effect. Can anyone be of any more help? I put a 340 bare block down in it to see how far I hafta move, cut , weld, and otherwise to get my V8 in there, and so far, it looks as though there is plenty of room for the engine. So...I ask again....will it hurt anything to cut into the K member and weld box steel into it to make my new V8 engine mounts? Anyone that has done this swap before without using the Schumaker kit? Any responses with be greatly appreciated :) I'm on a limited time line. If anyone has pics, or diagrams or otherwise lenghty solutions, you can Email me at Daktout@hotmail.com

Spank you all!!
