Subject: Hep Installing Jeep Tach in my dakota?? IP: Logged
Message: The other day while i was the junk yard, i grabbed a tach out of an older wrecked wrangler. It was only a few bucks so i figured i give it a try in my 88 3.9L since it does not have 1. So, i was wondering if i could get some help from you guys. There are 4 wires, a black, white, green, and a orange w/ red stripe. I know 1 or more of them is for the light in the back, but the others i'm not sure of. So if you have any tips it would be great, so i can save my self some trial and error time, thanks a lot,
-Jason

Message: I'd say that the black is probably a ground wire of some sort, stick that one under a screw somewhere on bare metal. Maybe the white would act as a power wire? I'm not sure about the rest. Let us know if it works out though, hope I could help.

Message: I figured it out today and got it mounted, it worked out pretty well. Black is ground, white is 12 volts switched, green is the minus side of the coil, and orange/red is power for the lighting. I used a T bracket from lowes and mounted it to the dash, it looks good, just thought i'd let u all know,
