 Subject: Tundra v6 vs Kota v6

i had to drive the company truck (2001 tundra v6) today. i've never driven it before so i was thinking i could maybe compare it to my kota 6er. i was very surprised when i drove it. it had waaay more "go" than my truck. what the hell is up with that? the tundra rates @ 190hp@4800/220tq@3600 while ours is 175hp@4800/225tq@3200. they way almost the same (toyo: 3795 & kota: 3617) and the power difference between the two is pretty colse. why does it have more "stabs" than my kota?? i even have a few mods on my truck (intense intake, gibson single exit, msd wires, and a 180t-stat) the tundra is a completely base v6.
dang, does 15 horsepower make that big of a difference?well, i guess its time to buy a throttle body cuz i am very dissapointed.

Is your Dak a club cab? It's hard to believe they weigh almost the same since the Tundra is a 1/2 ton truck like an F-150.
That 1MZ-FE engine is torquey though, all aluminum, 6 bolt mains, DOHC. Very nice as long as you change your oil religously, they sludge up easily. Drive a Toyota sometime with the 2UZ-FE I-Force V8, those things are quick.

Yeah today at work(carmax tech.)I drove a tundra for the first time V8 Four Wheel Drive,4Door Shortbed, and i was Very impressed!From a roll I floored it and it broke the wheels loose good! This seemed like a nice ass truck but they're expensive so I guess you get what you pay for!!

jon: you're right, the tundra's curb weight is around 4200-4600 plus our's had a canopy while my club cab is about 3900-4000 with the auto. DAMN! this makes it even worse; the tundra weighs more, power is the same, and its still more responsive than my truck. its ok though, as good as their 6's are i still love my kota. it gives me more reason to do more mods.

your right the tundra is faster, my friend has one with the v6 and we raced he killed me but also his was an 5 speed and mine is a automatic

Easy Red, spankin everybody with your shnazy new gears. As far as the Tundra vs Kota thing: Dakpak, have no fear the only thing that you're feeling is that famous "butt dyno" everyone talks about. "Butt dynos" are bogous. Every vehicle feels deferent. The V6 Tundras are not as fast as they feel. My buddy recently bought an '02 Tundra RC 5 sp, and beat him with just a home brew, AIT relocation, and TPS adjustment. He definitly doesn't have a chance now. :-)

LMAO. Sic, always with the wise cracks. Don't worry Red, at least your capital letters are in the right places. You could have been FlamerEd01. :-) If you guys are really worried about gettin beat, just wait for the warranty to run out, crack open your block, and get to it. Many old school secrets still apply. There are a ton of places out there that will program the ROM in your computers to compinsate for any crazy junk you decide on doing. Kinda tired of hearing of everyone with all the same mods that everyone has. Too many Bernd puppies running around this forum. Gotta give props to Bernd for his knowledge of new Magnums, but he has way too many followers. I want to see a post on here of someone that ripped out there motor, punched it out it decked, ported, polished, flat tops, bumped up compression, gasket matched, hot ignition step up, rollor top end, off set cam, forged this and that... you get the idea. Sorry about that. Being an old school dragger talking.

sic: mine has the conservative 3.55 and not sure what the toyo has. i didn't know nada about gears when i bought it. i wanna drive a kota with the 3.92 though and see if there's a big difference.
mopardude: sorry bro; i admit, i'm a "bernd follower" when it comes to mods buts its cool though, i'm learnin new sh*t as i go along.

Dakpak, it's cool if you are a follower if you are just starting to learn how motors react to mods and to go around and see what has been done. If it's your daily driver, then I wouldn't suggest that you tear down your motor. I've spoke with Bernd before and hes got it together with new Magnums. I'm just tired of seeing almost everybody doing his stuff. That's about it.

Hey mopardude, reading your previous post it looks like your a Bernd follower too, with the TPS, and the IAT adjustments...
Your right though, why spend money on little 5hp mods when for a couple hundred bucks you can have some head and valve work done and see huge gains.

Yup.. that Tundra V8 is off tha hook! My friend let me drive his truck and it has power for days. Another one of my friends has a Tacoma PreRunner with the V6 (I think its the same one you drove) and that thing held its own too! But, those trucks are tooo damn expensive for my blood, I'll keep my 'Kota Sixer any day. You should also get the throttle body like you said, it will help a bit plus you have tose other mods too that will go together with it. Peace.

You got me Jon with the sensor crap. But you're also talking about 2 mods. I actually even tried those famous autolites everyone raves about. Not impressed. Too cold. These would help if you had boost or juice, but I haven't seen much of that in here either. I still haven't seen any of you guys talking about some head work or lower end. When you guys tell me that you just spent somewhere between 300 to 500 bucks on head work, or something else I mentioned earlier I won't pick on you guys. No hard feelings with you guys, just seems to redundent in here. Once I get my bugs worked out, I'll let you guys in on my little secrets. Hopefully, all you guys don't following me around. :-) Just kinding. I'm sure you guys are going to have a hay day with this one.

I agree completely, my motor's coming apart in a few weeks for some major mods. I have a little bit of experiance with racing engines so i know how to build them to last and be fast, but parts are expensive. For people just starting out Bernds website is a great starting place.
Btw i don't like the autolites either anymore but i need coppers with the nitrous so i live with them.

you know i dont knwo about your guys/and girls ;-)dakotas but mine is not as slow as it feels, i raced with my moms 91 ford explorer with a 4.0 and we ended up with her trucks rear bumper at my front bumper, its Electronic ignition with a more powerfull motor and less miles, both trucks bone stock
also it gets 16 mpg and i get 16 mpg so its not too far off Par (going golfing in a few hours, hope to get alot of pars, if i can drive straight)
but id take my dak over the explorer, i jsut need to get some insulation or something for my forewall, damn the old girl is getting noisey

Superbee: i drove a 98 Explorer 4.0L yesterday and it was really slow, its a pretty heavy SUV. My dakota could run circles around it all day, whens the last time you had a tuneup.

Superbees NON-mag 125 Hp 12 year old engine
vs.
Mothers 4.0 155 (i think) and the Explorer has a better tranny than the 90 dak
the curb weight on explorer is 3800 vs 3000 lbs Dakota
but the 91 explorer with 155 hp is faster than 125 hp dakota
also i think my dak has 3.5 gears, not sure on that though, not sure what the gear ratio is on explorer either
My Dakota is Running EXCELENT compared to the other ones in town the guys i have talked to
GenI #1 - 13 Mpg with VERY little power
genI #2 - 15 Mpg (Stick) very tired engine
i may need new valve seals but other than that its running better than it ever has
recap - 125 Hp base Unmodded 12 (now 13) year odl engine
