Message: hi! I just bought a 1990 le club cab dak with 49,000 orig. kms on it. the truck looks and runs great. it has a 3.9L and automatic tranny in it. it also has tilt, cruise, am/fm cassette, bucket seats and a high rise cap. I just noticed that there are 3 small patches (about the size of a quarter) where the paint is peeling off of the roof? does anyone remember if this was a particular problem with a 1990 dakota and if so, was there a RECALL re: peeling paint?
Also-i have read alot about autolite 9523 spark plugs for dak's-what makes these plugs so highly recommended?
Thanks and have a great day!

Message: www.alldata.com for recall info. I don't know about 9523 plugs but people do recommend 3923 autolites.
Harlow wilcox is the resident guru on autolites. Due a search on autolites and I am sure you will find all of the info you need.

Message: That time in all automobiles they were swaping from laq. based to poly urathane (sp)base/clear coat systems. Everything made during that time peeled. Dodge, ford, gm, all of them.

Message: Yes, Chrysler products had a particularly bad time with peeling from the early 90's. The one's I notice most in my area are Dodge Shadow's. I don't believe they ever actually did a recall. I just waited for a hail storm and well.... I got a new paint job out of it.

Message: Delamination - That's what happens when they try to get environmentally friendly! GM had a huge problem from 88-92 (around there) in their Van Nuys plant (not the Ohio plant though). The paint was formulated differently to meet the California regulations. However, GM did not change their primer. Needless to say, the paint did not adhere properly to the primer and VOILA, delamination. Happened to My '91 Formula and of course, AFTER the warranty period.
