Subject: Flowmaster Question IP: Logged
Message: I am thinking of installing the 40 series on my 01 3.9L dak reg cab. I was talking to some guys at the local muffler shop, and they said that muffler needs a piece of extention pipe because it is too short. Is there a flowmaster 40 series that is fit for my dak? How easy is it to do on my own? I have a mig welder, and I am not afraid to weld, but is it worth doing it myself? Thanks again!

Message: The flowmaster is a much shorter muffler than the stock dodge; making the extension a must. If the extension does not need to be bent; you can probably do it yourself. Do it yourself if you know how to weld and you want to save money.
Get the Deltaflow 40, which keeps its sound better in the higher rpms. The regular 40 seems to get ricey in the higher rpms.

Message: How can you tell the difference? I bought my 95 Dak 3.9 less than 2 weeks ago. I know it's the 40 (Flowmaster installer told me) but I don't know the difference between the Deltaflow and the regular 40. Mine's a dual chamber if that tells you anything.

Message: The Deltaflow will have 3 or 4 v-shaped outlines on the exterior of the muffler. If I remember correctly the regular 40 series only has 1, or maybe 2. Unless your been around alot of 3.9 with the two 40 series mufflers; its hard to tell the difference. The dead give away is the sound at higher rpms; for me anyway.
Oh, both 40s are dual chamber.

Message: ok here's how ya tell....... deltaflow 40 sounds awesome, regular 40 series sounds like your truck just ate too much at the all you can eat mexican restaurant and now has bad gas..... no seriously, the deltaflow 40 has 3 internal baffles in the power chamber which you can see from the case on the muffler ( you'll see v's in a row near the inlet of the muffler ) on the regular 40 series you'll only see one v near the inlet and that's about the only way to tell..... well..... except for the sound the deltaflow doesn't sound like a chainsaw the regular 40 series sounds bad on the v6....
