Message: I have a 98 Dak CC with 3.9 and auto trans. Is it good or bad to leave the overdrive on? Does it hurt the transmission?

Message: With the overdrive on (OD light off), you have 4th gear which is used on the highway or anytime you are driving over about 45mph. If you are putting around town or towing, turn it off (OD off light on) because it keeps your trans from shifting into 4th gear which is worthless when your driving slow or towing. At low speeds if you try to accelerate it will just shift back down hurting gas mileage and causing unnecessary wear.

Message: the first and seconnd are for when you need power, especially for getting heavy loads moving, it will allow you to go higher up in the RPM range than the transmission would normally allow.
Basically instead of your transmission shifting at like 20 mph you can make the truck get up to like 30 mph before you have to shift the truck up into the next gear.
Doesnt hurt anything unless you use it all the time
