Subject: Just installed TB IP: Logged
Message: I just finished installing a factory V8 TB which i ported and polished. Total time start to finish from when i opened the hood to when i closed it: 15 minutes. That includes installing the new throttle cable. I didn't notice any low end gains, but it pulls hard at high revs, and especially above 60mph, thats probably a combination of the bigger TB bores, and the cowl induction. I ran the quarter mile on a deserted road near my house, i don't know how long it took but i was running about 90mph when i was done, without using the nitrous.
The biggest difference i noticed was that i can now break'em loose shifting into 3rd! It wasn't a spectacular increase in power but it was much better then any high flow air filter i've ever bought and it cost the same.

Message: Sure, it's easy.
1) Loosen the wing nut and remove the air cleaner assy. from the top of the engine.
2) Unplug all three sensors on the TB. There are little tabs you just gently pull up on with your fingernail and the connector will slide out.
3) Unplug the vacuum hose from the front of the TB. It will be stuck on you may have to twist or pry it off with a screwdriver. If it's all cracked and dryrotted you should replace it.
4) Disconnect the throttle cable from the TB. The cable has a plastic connector that snaps on to a ball on the throttle linkage, just pry it off. The remove the cable from the metal bracket attached to the TB. You'll see it has a little tab, pry it back and it will slide up and off.
5) Remove all 4 bolts from the top of the throttle body (1/2" i think) and the throttle body will pull right off.
6) Make sure the top of the intake is clean where the gasket sits, try not to drop any crap into the intake either.
7) Put the new gasket on set the TB on top and put the 4 bolts in. I think the torque spec is 168 in-lb (14 lb-ft), it's only aluminum, you dont want to crack it. If you use a 3/8" drive ratchet and hold it up near the head when you snug it down that should be fine. Put the air cleaner on.
8) Reconnect the sensors and hoses and the new cable. The new cable will attach to the new TB almost like the old one did. It's just a different shaped connector.
9) Remove the old cable. It snaps into the firewall. If you look at it from inside you will see that the plastic connector has big tabs that hold it in. Just squeeze those with pliers and pop it through the wall. The end of the cable just pops off the top of the gas pedal.
10) Install the new cable through the firewall, it connects the same as the old one. If you go to the speedtweaks website he has instructions with picturs for replacing the cable. Just by looking at the connectors you should see how it all comes apart.
That's it, start it up. If it idles good and the check engine light doesn't come on immediately you did it right.

P.S. You could probably reset the computer to help it relearn with the new TB and see the difference right away, but you don't have to.
