has anyone converted their open rear end on their 4th gen Dakota to the limited slip like the R/T has (I believe)? If so where did you source the parts from, how much did they cost and how involved is the install? I would really like to stay away from posi rear ends because I dont care for all the mechanical noise they make. This is just a daily driver, not a race car. The only reason I want limited slip is for more traction in wet/winter conditions. Thanks for any help you gentleman can provide.

MikeS,

I have a V6 SLT CC daily driver that used to spin out all the time too. I considered the rearend mod, but decided not to have it cracked open. Instead I put 255/70R15 BF Goodrich TA performance tires, K&N IAS shocks, and a Hellwig anti-sway bar on the truck. I have much more grip now both wet and dry roads. I live in Seattle so there are LOTS of wet roads. I feel better knowing that my rear end isn't gonna putz out because some guy didn't do the job right. You know the saying "If it ain't broke..."

I already have new tires on order. This time they will be Michelin all season radials. I'm actually going down from 255 to 245 to ensure better grip in the snow.

I got the powertrax no slip locker in my diff, and i rarely spin out, even in mud. It rules and gives me the capability of a 4x4. Haven't tried it in snow yet, but itching to:) I don't even know its there either :)

chaximus, doesnt the locker make lots of mechanical noise when your doing slow turns? Also how much did it cost you for parts and install if you didnt do it yourself?

The first few hundred miles, let's say..200, u will hear some locking and clicking, until it finishes it's run-in period. After that, u won't even know it's there. It works like a charm and get's me through mudholes that i wouldn't normally have a chance with. Occasionally, it clicks in reverse but that becomes normal. For my dakota, which is rare since it's 2wd and teh demand is not high, it cost around $400, and i had the shop install it because i didn't want to make a mistake ;) Don't compare this with a Detroit locker, they are loud and noisey, while these powertrax lockers aren't.

i also have the powertrax rear and its great except for the clicking, if i take a turn fast the back end will definitley rip out on me, especially in the rain, and the wheel hop sucks too. i love the unit and it goes great with higher gears.
