Message: I have a 97 V6 Sport and I have to refill about 1 quart of coolant/water a month to the radiator. I have done an oil change since I've noticed this and there is none leaking into the cylinders or anything, but I'm just wondering what could be the issue?
I know it's damn hot down here in South Florida, but it's just strange...any ideas? I keep on top of the maintenance, so it shouldn't be a long term issue (truck already has 110K miles) but I'm just wondering what some other possibilities are? thanks in advance guys!

Message: also, thought I should note that I did change to a 180 degree thermostat and that I don't see any leaking, it is actually being burned away/evaporating, not loss

Message: Do you notice alot of white smoke/steam coming from the exhaust? If you do it is possable you have a bad head gasket or the less likley a cracked head.

Message: Jason,
After it cools off one afternoon, crawl up under the front end and check if the water pumps seal is seeping(not leaking just a little moisture). If not check the thermostat housing after you get home one afternoon to see if it's leaking. The engine temp. will evaporate any coolant that is leaking from it.
I ran into a similar problem a while back. Easy fix, and a minor mistake on my part when I put it back together. No biggie!
Hope this helps!

Message: I know when I put the thermostat in, it was leaking a lot of fluid when I first put it back together, but I sealed it w/ RTV silicone and it's been perfect since, so that's not an issue. I can double check to see if anything is coming from the water pump, as I didn't see anything there previously...
As I said, it's not THAT much, but over a months time it adds up to about a quart and I don't see anything on my driveway (other than a drop of oil, but that's entirely a different issue) :)
thanks for the responses, if you have any other ideas, please post!

Message: I had a similiar issue. About a quart a month and no sign of leaking. I replaced the thermostate housing gasket and I fixed the problem. I scratched my head on this one for many months. My dak is 98 V6 CC SLT 2x2.

Message: it's possible that the computer on board made ajustment depending of weather???, for example, the change the seassions of the year (winter to summer or summer to winter) because i detect this problem October-november (spring in latinamerica, Chile, Argentina, etc)the last year. And still refill de coolant overflow bottle, sometimes i refill directly the radiator and the refill the overflow bottle and then check the disptick

Message: Hey Jason I also live here in So. Fla, and I had a similar problem....Took it to University Dodge and they repplaced some freeze plugs...I noticed my prob first because the temp gauge would peg and then rapidly retreat...Im not sure if the lost coolant was from the plugs or the overheat/burn off..anyway I see the post is old just maybe it'll help someone else

Message: If you think you have a leak into the combustion chamber; pull the spark plug the first thing in the morning and check for moisture on them. Had a friend who had two cracker heads leaking on the exhaust side. Very hard to find. We just pulled the heads and had them checked. Very unusual to have both heads crack.
