Yup. An R/T engine is just a 5.9 360.

Well, I bought the motor, but I won't be putting it in soon. I want to buy parts for it, that will take a while (ran out of truck $$$$). And the swap itself will cost quite a bit.

Im thinking about getting me a 5.2 and borr it out and cam the works, but my friend is holding his 5.9 motor and tranny for me if I want it, But I love modding my 6, I just got some new things not to long ago, by the way do you still have that extra V8 tb cable, im in need of one.

i think this is a stupid idea but...well um what else are my posts for. ok say i got a chevy 350 from an 88 K5 blazer(once my grandfather is ready to get rid of the truck, which may never happen)but anyway, would it be possible to put a chevy 350 in a dak or would it take so much work that just getting a 5.9 or 4.7 would be a lot easier. other problem with this is that the engine is so old. only has like 100,000 on it. guess it would have to be rebuilt first. just an idea. 99% probably won't happen

Well, my mechanic put a 350 chev into a dak, but it was a gen 1, so everything was different. It would cost you so frickin much money to adapt everything, and as you said, the engine is old... you would be way better off buying a new truck. Say... haven't you heard that before?

hey i said i thought it was a bad idea. I CANNOT BUY A NEW TRUCK AND EVEN IF I COULD I wouldn't get a V8 dakota. I want a regular car that has enough leg room for me...lol. Nissan Maxima sounds pretty good. or maybe if im 25 and my insurance goes down ill get a mustang. only way i'm getting another dakota is as a second car. turbo sounds like a much better option then engine drop

why in the heck would you replace one of the best engines ever built with a chevy anything???? The small block chevys burn more oil, therefore smoke more, then any engine ever built. The valve stem seals start to go bad at 10,000 mi. on them chubbies and once they do. smoke city!!!!

I'm not exactly sure what you will need other than those items... I will be discovering that for myself too. The best place to ask would be www.moparchat.com on the dakota forum. Look for Bill Thompson (my mechanic) or dodgeboy93. They have done several swaps and have extensive hands on experience with dodge motors and rebuilds.

Shoot, I have no idea. I will check with my mechanic, he knows my motor and what it is worth. It is going to be about a year I think.
