Subject: Heat Shields for Headers? IP: Logged
Message: I just installed a pair of JBA nickel plated headers in my 99 3.9 Dakota. I was wondering if I should try to rig up some kind of heat shield in place of the ones that were on the stock manifolds. That passenger side header comes awfully close to the A\C accumulator.

Message: that's why they offer the coated headers. the coated ones keep the temperature to about 200 degrees, which keep the engine bay really cool...

Message: Wow 200 degreees!!! I knew that coated headers kept the engine bay cooler but that's pretty good. I know those babies give a lot of heat.

Message: Cool......from what i understand, any kind of header, coated or not, will keep the bay cooler since they flow exhuast and hence, heat, out the exhaust faster.......by the way, how about those stock exhaust manifold gaskets?? LOL......the reason i decided to put headers on is that i had a bad leak at the engine so i figured i'd put headers on .....and low and behold, no gaskets were there....i understand that they were machine fit and gaskets were not needed but over time on a part like that, you know warpage is going to develop.....seems like the worst place to omit gaskets....otherwise, the headers went on easily and i shall soon order a cat-back Gibson dual exhaust....
