Message: there's the easy way (which sometimes isn't so easy) and the hard way.
the easy way is to drain some coolant from the radiator by removing the stock hose and letting it drain. then remove the thermo sleeve by removing the two bolts and pulling up on the hose and wedging the housing out. then simply remove the old thermo and gasket, replace, and reinstall everything.
the hard way is to remove the alternator, and compressor. then its really easy.
the third way is to take it to your local mechanic, and they'll probably do it for less than $20 or 30 bucks.
and finally, the reason i say the easy way can be hard is because i lost one of the two screws that holds the sleeve in place, and had to drive my truck to my mechanic to have him re-install the bolt (it had slipped under the compressor and i couldn't reach it).
i've got more stuff on this on my webpage.
