Subject: Tranny fluid line ? IP: Logged
Message: The first mod that I'm making to my truck is a B&M tranny cooler. I have a 2002 3.9L with the 42RE tranny. Does anyone know which fluid line from the tranny is the return line...the front one or the back one? Thanks!

Message: I just put my B&M on and a temp gauge. Freakin awesome if I do say so myself. About your question, I believe the bottom line is the return line. At least thats how I integrated the cooler to the system. Works fine so no worries. Hope everything goes well. I'm sure you'll be satisfied. Mine runs at 165 degrees tops so far that I've seen. Later

Message: Thanks, Tony! I might go ahead and do the temp gauge also, now that you mention it.

Message: I talked to Tony on a previous post. Yes. Do your self the favor and do the gauge. Especially if you offroad and or 4x4 it. As I told Tony, both of these things generate lots of heat. Heat kills a tranny. Tony says his is operating at 165 fully warmed up. This is good. He's dumping a lot of excess heat. If this is what he is getting even when he is doin' it in the dirt and gettin' on it, well then I'm even more amazed. GREAT! Most trannies will live comfortably all day at 180-200. But his is really liking life. Short bursts of 220-250 is acceptable. Prolonged temp over 220 and your bands and clutches start to not liking things. The more heat you can rid the longer things last.
