Subject: please help, stalling V6 IP: Logged
Message: Hey, had a couple questions.
First, I am having problems with my v6. I changed to Autolites about 3000 miles ago. Lately it has been just quitting on me, from idle, from 55 mph, just stalls. Sometimes it comes back if I am in drive but while in park it just dies. Then it starts again just fine, runs about 8 seconds, then kills. I am thinking it may be bad gas, but this has happened about 5 times in the last 4 months or so.
Secondly, I will be going 55-65 mph and my tranny will jerk on me. I have an AT with OD. I changed tranny oil about 200 miles ago and installed a tranny temp gauge to see if it gets hot, and it doesn't. Doesn't really jump gears, just gets real jerky and I have to reset the computer, then it goes away for another 250 miles or so, then happens again. What the heck?
So, if anyone has had these problems, can you help me out? I am in college and can't hardly afford to take it to the dealer, hard enough to make the payments.
Thanks for any replies, much appreciated.

Message: My 95' 3.9L also stalls when at idle, cruising along or accelerating. It runs great til it stalls. The PCM is new, new o2 sensor, cam shft sensor, ignition coil, distributor cap, dist. rotor and coil, new gapless plugs, and wires. The fuel pressure maintains 38 - 40 psi even when it stalls. Any help out there would be appreciated.
thanks,
jason

Message: I have a 92 V6 and it was doing the same thing as all you other guys. It would just stall while driving. Then it would start up right after that again. Sometimes it will not start at all. it just turns over with no start. What I did was to change all the relays in the fuse box. Eventhought they look ok. Changed cap, rotor, and pick-up and wires. Still had the problem. So I changed the crank position sensor located on the bell housing and changed the computer. After all that it works good. A couple of times it would not start when I kill it, but it never died while driving. Knock on wood that it doesn't.

Message: i have a 2000 dakota it is a work truck v6 auto it has 68,000 miles had a lot of stalling probs at first it was that my coil wire was falling off then about 10,000 later the coil wire was so crisp it broke about 15,000 or so ago try a idle speed control sensor it is what finally fixed mine. It is in the rear of the throttle body and take your old one with you dodge gave me the wrong one at first. If i remember right it is a dealer only item.

Message: Got it back from the dealer today. They charged me 800 bucks, but it is fixed, so I guess I can't complain. They replaced coil, rotor, cap, wires, and plugs. Also the tensioner and belt were due...I guess.
Only problem was that I had the Autolites in there and he said that they are like running water and oil together...never run autolites with a chrysler engine. Why, well he says they don't burn hot enough. IMHO it idles rough again, like before I went to the autolites. They smoothed out the idle before this other crap happened, but I guess I will stay with these new factory plugs.
So, I am back on the road, but not necessarily happily....

Message: I had all those problems you described. I tried a
tune-up, then new battery, then new 02 sensor...
still had the stalling problem. After I changed
the injectors, no more stalling.

Message: lukus: if you have to spray starting fluid into the tb, to make it start or run then you prolly do have a problem with either your fuel pump, injectors, spark plug and wires or maybe the tb itself, run some tests on the plugs and wires to make sure they are getting spark and detonation, also check the injectors maybe run a can of cleaner down the tb and the gas tank if all else fails take it in, i wish i could tell you more but i'm not that familar with a voyager.

Message: Same problem here, driving along it it just quits like you turned the key off. Went through the usual, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, crank position sensor, cam position, replaced my worn distributor intermediate shaft and bushing. Turned out to be the computer. Runs great now, should everything on it is new. :)
Rebuilt computer with lifetime warranty $160.00. Loving my 93 Dakota again even though it doesn't have much paint on it anymore!
