Subject: How do i remove emissions pump? IP: Logged
Message: My father has a 91 cc 2x4 3.9 with about 230k. Surprisingly this truck runs great and is in solid condition. However I own a 94 cc 5.2L V8 4x4 and I want to help out this old dak. I used to drive the old dak and its the reason I own my dak. The old v6 has a emissions pump on it, and those things are worthless. I was wondering if I just take off the belt will that confuse the comp or will it help. If I want to remove the whole system do I need to tack the spots where it connects to the manifold or what. I am not familiar with these emissions pumps and I would love to hear some input.
Thnx
Nizate

Message: I believe you can remove the belt with no problems. The only reason I haven't removed the belt on my '89 is that it needs the pump to pass emissions.

Message: Removing the air pump does not increase HP at all. The only reason that some folks have seen performance increases due to removing the pump is because the factory pump was either broken (dragging pulley) or bad bearings.
We tested this years ago and there's no increases in HP from removing the pump. The older, original (1970-1980) pumps did degrade performance...but they've been replaced with much more efficient pumps since then.
