I thought I had the "go fast" bug before! I told myself that I would not spend anymore money on my truck. Then I went to the dragstrip for the first time. wow. I have it bad now ;-) I *really* want to do nitrous now, but I am a poor college kid!!!! LOL, I hate when this happens...

You don't really want Nitrous...

You want a TURBO! :0)

I'm not sure of the mechanics of it, Intense or Bernd(outta town?) might know but there was some Eclipse at our local dragstrip and it had a 3 stage turbo or something like that. 10 second car. gotta be cool.

the "stage 3" would be just like a kit that somebody sells. It probably has a big@ss intercooler with a bigger than stock turbo, higher flowing intercooler pipes and such.

why not a supercharger instead of a turbo? runs much cooler and no need for heat shields.

How about all three??? LOL, just kidding. Either would be cool, but the only problem with the SC is that I couldn't get traction without slicks me thinks. I have a 4x4 (600 extra lbs, I know, I live in NE Ohio!!!), so I think that the weight distribution would kill the traction.
Anyway, I have 2 questions:
How much is a NX kit (just basic kit, nothin fancy)
and 2:
I have a tonneau cover. Would taking off the tail gate and leaving on the tonneau create some kind of strange aerodynamics that would slow me down? Thanks everyone!

Oh, btw (I know, its getting longer and longer!) Intense, I was reading a post awhile back from you on nitrous. You said that you drilled and tapped a TB spacer, and put the NO2 jets in the spacer? Did it work? Any luck? Thanks!

no it didnt work because of the throttle body sensors... but now that bernd has those "speed rings" (i have one already) you could tap one of those on both sides and aim them at each throttle body port and clear all the hardware.

hehehe thanx!

i believe bernd sells them for $50. They are actually used to keep the airhat from falling off under high boost pressures from a supercharger or turbocharger. They are custom built out of billet.

Intense correct me if I'm wrong although I know there is no real "right" answer. Is a turbo better for high revving motors and the S/C is better for lower revving motors such as V8s(american in most cases) due to the fact that higher revving motors are better suited to create the backpressure needed for the turbo to work. I admit this may be a very stupid deduction but you see more american cars with S/Cs and smaller high-revving imports with the turbos.

i really dont know the answer to that but i would imagine it is....because turbos spool to 150,000 rpms and s/c get no where near that. i think that there is just better control and adjustability with a turbo

Good answer. That's why I love this site. Many people who are much more mechanically inclined than me help me learn.

if that were the case, cummins would have superchargers and funny cars would have turbos.

I think it all dependson the application, turbo is basically free power because your using exhaust gas while, a supercharger borrows a few horsepower to make major horsepower when you step on it. I think that a supercharger is capable of moving more volume that's why you see them on mostly big V8's and occaisionly some 6 cylinders. Where as turbos are more suited to small higher revving engines that can run at the rpms needed to make the turbo work efficiently. The exception is diesals, but they produce alot more exhaust pressure than gas engines.

Just my opinion...

I agree with Jon. Come to think of it, I never see any turbos on drag cars. I wonder if that is the reason. Either way, I definately would not complain if someone gave one to me ;-)

As for most dragsters where would you put it? Most serious dragsters run open header and to put a turbo on there would be difficult i would think.
