Subject: Deer anyone? IP: Logged
Message: Well today is not a fun day. This morning on my way to work a 250lb deer decided to duck and run across the road, the only problem was it was foggy (5:45am) and there were trees on my pasinger side that he ran out of. I didnt even see what i hit untill i went back and looked for it. It really sucked, one of the few times i wasnt speeding and i hit a deer, if i was speeding i would have totally missed it. It took out my passinger side lights, cracked up my grill, broke the radiator support, broke the fan housing and the fan took a chunk out of it, bent my bumper, bend up the fender and the pasinger door. Bad luck right?
Well the reason i decided to write was, does anyone know if a gurauge will fix the truck as it was, OR factory parts? I had clear corner lights, a speed grill, and 20 ebay hipe white lights. I hate to see some of my exterior mods go back to factory cause some deer cant look both ways. Well any input will help. I guess i could just ask a gurauge, i'll do that later today.

Message: Same sort of thing happened to me. The body shop replaced everything with factory pcs. As for the aftermarket pcs, I had to get them my self then submit the bill to the insurance company. The reason I was told, was that the shop deals directly with the manufacturer, and also a number of after market manufacturers (fenders / doors etc..) for the work they perform, which they have accounts set up with, and they do not have direct access to these custom accessory dealers etc.
Basically its a waste of their time trying to source out the parts and get them to their door...

Message: WOWZERS!!! Just got the progressive estimate today. They are saying the deer did $3,665.69 worth of damage. THE GOOD NEWS is that i only have to pay $100 AND progressive covers up to 1,000 of aftermarket parts, so all my fron end mods are safe and sound!! THANK GOD! Now i just have to wait untill the gurauge gets everything done. The progressive agent couldnt believe how much damage the deer did. I told him it was big. I'm just glad i had the blood hair, and other deer type stuff on the truck, i didnt wash anything off. He might not have believed me if i washed it. Theres been to many insurance frauds for them to accept everything without good evidence. ohhh well, thats my little story for the day, guess theres no Truck Nationals for me this year, only as a spectator. :(

Message: yeah that is progressive for you only 1000 huh? My carrier will fix everything IF they know about it before the claim ie. if I have for instance 3000 in mods to the front body work and it gets wrecked, and I let them know about the mods before the wreck, the will replace EVERYTHING. Might be wise to shop around for more then just price as progressive advertises.

Message: hey- you of course kept the deer for the meat right? Even tho it was pretty messed up some or even most of the meat may well have been edible. One more "road kill" hide and I have enough to make my deerskin coat. I am on the local police list for picking up dead deer. I get 6-8 a year more then my hunting licsence allows as that is what the law here allows.

Message: if the back around the spine was ok that is where the best meat is . known as the back straps it is also sometimes refered to as rib roast or prime rib in beef, by far the best. course I have not actually seen your kill but I have yet to see aroad kill, even by 70 mph semi's that did not have at least 20 lbs of good meat. I have over 150 lbs of venison in my freezer from "fresh" recovered road kill and have not bought beef in more then 5 years due to hunting success and 'recovers'. But I also realize that my way of eating cheap is not for everyone.

Message: I feel your pain, on Feb 2 2002 my poor 02 dakota was the victim of road rage. Some bastard forced me of the road at 35 mph, into a powerline. The impact was on the drivers side right at the door hinge causing a whopping $13,000,00 in damages. That's not including the $3,000,00 for the pole!!! I'm in the process of taking this to court, which has been postponed 3x!!!!! The next court date is Dec 10 2002 until then I'm still dakotaless and SOL:(

Message: The other night I had a close call. I don't think it was a deer though because it was too big. I think it was a horse. When it saw my headlights, it didn't jump out of the way, it just kept walking like I wasn't coming at him at 45mph. I swerved to miss it and luckily my dak handles relatively good, because that could have sucked!!!!!!
