96 CC with 3.9 Auto and towing package.
My question is this...
Can my Dakota pull a single horse trailor with a horse in it, of course... Or will I need a bigger truck.

u shouldn't have any problem towing a one horse trailer, with horse and equip. i know the 3.9 engine will do the job. i have towed alot with my 94dakII 3.9 5speed with ease and i don't have anything but the class III hitch no further modes.

Depends, how far do you want to tow it?
You can tow a surprising amount with the 3.9L, you just can't tow it at high speeds up an incline. :0)

My 93 5speed 3.9 that I had, towed a 20' 5th wheel for over 40k miles. That was at high speed and up old logging roads. It took me up hills, that when I dropped off the trailer I couldn't get back up. It also went (I'm not kidding) 95mph flat out.
The truck and trailer ready for camping with me in it was 10,000 And I got 12mpg.
The repairs in it's 145k life was a cat @51k, A radiator @60k (airbourn once to many) and a back U-joint @60k.

I towed a 3800# 72 Roadrunner 400 km @ 120 km/hr, up and down the foothills, no problem. Just don't lug the engine.

97 (yeah I know it is a diff. gen.)cc 3.9 automatics are rated to tow 4800 lbs. with the proper hitch and wht the window sticker says is "accessories"
